Been running the factory 265/35R20 Pirelli PZero summer tires since purchasing the car 3 months ago. It quickly became clear these tires are out of their element in the Pacific Northwest's cold morning commutes with damp roads and temps in the 30s and 40s. Feels like the tires are just rock hard until they get a few miles into the drive, and even then I don't trust them. I haven't had a chance to put many miles on them in anything warmer but I'll cross my fingers that as the temps climb, so will my confidence in the PZero's.
Mustang handles the lion's share of my daily driving duties along with my old SUV. Point being that when we get so much as a threat of ice or snow the Mustang sits in the garage, so I am not concerned with that, but definitely need a tire that can handle the rain and cold temps better.
Sounds like the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ would do the trick, but it's not available in the factory size. Thinking I would drop down to the 255/35R20 for the 20x9 wheels rather than up to the 275/35R20.
Or should I go with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06? The only high performance a/s available in the factory size as far as I can tell.
Or the BF Goodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S? Would have to go 255 or 275 width here as well it appears.
Am I correct to shop for an A/S tire to run the 4 months a year or so where temps are not friendly to summer tires? Or since I am committing to running two sets of tires, should I make it a full winter tire even though it will never see snow or ice?
