Another question. What if I removed both timing chains without turning the crank to 5 oclock before removing drivers side chain. I FORGOT!

Uhhhhh. Well, I questioned that process when doing mine as it seemed I could just put the chain on the same way without rotating it. The problem is that you can't align the dark links on the chain to confirm that you have correct timing and not be off one link or so. If you marked the chain and timing gear and chain and a location on the cam phaser you could probably pull it off but it seems like you just pulled them off already.
On a side note, and I don't have experience with this, you could probably rotate the crank to the 5 o'clock position and then rotate the cams to the correct position so that the links match up. Does that make sense?
Let us know what you end up doing.

I think I am going to put the chain back on just like I took it off and then rotate it to 5 oclock and go from there. Because that is where you start to match chain to alignment marks. If it's off a tooth, I'll correct it and then follow the rest of the procedure. That seem like it makes sense?

That should work. Make sure you have the guides on as well as the tensioner to maintain chain tension when you rotate it. When you put the drivers side back on, just make sure that the links are in the right spots and that 'should' be good.

You will need to have reference marks on the chains for it to go back in time. In other words if you pulled the chains off without marking them both at the timing gear and at the cam gear you will not know how to place the chains. The placement of the chain links to locations on those timing marks is critical.

It's also possible if nothing has moved (crank gear or cams) that if you can get the chains and guides back on without moving anything you will be in time. It's the slack in the chains that needs to be oriented correctly, and if the guides go on with out having to move crank or cams it should work.

Are you following the Ford service manual? You have to make sure before removing the pass side timing chain that the Keyway is at 12 and the R Timing mark on the cam phaser is at 11 o'clock. If not you need to rotate another 360. See below, then you can go to the 5 0clock position and remove that timing chain.

Yes. following the service manual. I did set the rh side just like it said. I turned the crank until keyway was 12 o'clock and rh was top at 11 o'clock, but got ahead of myself and removed the driver side chain before turning to 5 o'clock. anyhow, Im working on putting the chain back on just like it was and then turning crank to 5 o'clock position and then I'll take it back apart and follow manual from there. If it's off a tooth I can correct at that point because the timing chain won't line up correctly.

its working out so far. I put the drivers side chain back on and turned it to 5 o'clock and took chain off. then aligned dark links and they lined up correctly.

Seems like they have you do it this way, because when you turn the crank to 5'oclock the driver side cams are free and not depressing any springs.

I got the chains back on! After putting drivers side chain back and turning it to the 5 o'clock position, I then pulled the chain back off and realigned it to the dark links. I then proceeded to turn the crank one full revolution and then turned again till keyway at 12 o'clock. At that point, the passenger side chain dark links lined up also. I bolted the tensioners back on and turned the crank over several times. Everything seems ok. no binding or noises and easy to turn.
