On-Track Limp Mode Poll

I'd actually be psyched if they did the kit with factory parts and worked out the programming, plus offered it at a discounted price point.

Even though it was more expensive, i'd probably opt for that. My hope would be that they'd take the factory trans as a core, but, even if they didnt, i'd bet it would fetch a nice price used to offset the cost. Hell, I might keep it and put it in my other car that doesnt rev so high that will never see a track.

Lots of good information here and reasonable people (even if you don't like my color choice ) I spoke to Gary Paterson at Shelby American (who just picked up his R. H said, like mentioned here before, they don't think the coolers on the track pack car or the R are adequate. They will have an all inclusive package coming soon. I am suppose to be see part numbers anytime now. I'm sure they wont be as affordable as the stock pieces.

One last comment, I brought a Tech pack car. I have a dedicated race car and wanted the comfort pieces. I knew the limitations and I always assumed I would have to spend money if I got to tracking the car a lot

Hi and welcome to the forums, as far as not liking your color choice, i'd first have to know what color your car is.

So what you are saying is Shelby American will come out with their own in house version of the coolers !

Looks like we'll have quite a few people to choose from to get the coolers.

Well, seems like the aftermarket company that i spoke with is bailing on their project due to ford being "close" on 2 different cooler package options.

I will also say this, I've been driving around with my n gauge installed and set to monitor transmission temps.

If what the track pack guys say is correct, and their trans sits at 165 degrees during track outings, i highly doubt that a tech 350 is going to be making any sustained autobahn runs.

11 minutes at 70mph, turning 3500-4000 RPMs (on purpose) = 200 degree trans temperature. I'll keep an eye on it when i get the chance to take a longer drive and see if it keeps climbing, but as i got onto the highway, it was 156 degrees, when i exited 199.7 degrees.

Steady rate of speed, approximately 74 degrees outside. 80%ish humidity, at sea level, on a flat road.

I cuncur with xmsn temps on track pack. Regular driving around town with "spirited" runs my temp sits in the 160s.
I live in northern AL and yesterday was in the low 80sF.

I was always taught that 175ish degrees was optimal for most transmissions.

a little scary to be putting along with traffic and see it jump this high.

280 degrees seems ludicrous to me. the viscosity dynamics must be so hugely different at that temp. Super surprised that the limit is that high.

Most armchair engineers will tell you that a transmission that sees temps that top out around 175 will last well over 100K miles, maybe forever.

Adding 50 degrees of fluid temp on a regular basis will put you in the 40-50K miles before failure range.

So looks like Ford might be close with their cooler packages. Finally some good news.

Not good news, but as the saying goes, "bad news is not like wine; it doesn't get better with age." A few more weeks and I'll be able to put it to the test on the Autobahn and go from there. Thanks for the data point.

This is not new as you know the non R and TP cars are running higher temps. SMH. the sky is not falling.

I guess you missed the word " might " !!!

He was also doing something most people wouldn't do for his test. I would like to know what the temperatures were running at 70 mph in 6th gear, which would be a more normal load.
