i was thinking about a oil filter magnet on my next oil change, either a filtermag or one that sticks to bottom of filter.

what's the opinion on these?

Even though most of the engine is aluminum and thus won't get caught by a magnet, it can't hurt. Ran the cupstyle that fits over the end of the filter for years on my other car until I 'lost' it during an oil change somewhere... LOL

I use dimple black holes and pan plugs. Have for years. Always a good amount of ferric dust on both the plug and inside of the filter can during service.

It can't hurt.

The best bang for your buck is the circular magnet which pulls 95 LBS and attach it to the bottom of the oil drain pan, sold at Harbor Freight for an astronomical $5!!!

I have one on my drain pan. I'll never be able to clean the other side unless I remove the pan, though. That's why they have the oil filter magnets. But the metal will settle in the pan.

I run two Filtermags.

I've seen how much metal debris a magnetic drain plug can catch so a filter mag will be even better. All of the oil goes through the filter whereas not all of the oil will settle to the bottom of the pan. Plus the filtermags have a ton more surface area.

Correct, a fair amount of reciprocating parts are aluminum. I don't see the need for magnets.
