Oil drain plug dilemma

So i think i have a big problem. Started changing my oil today and the plug seemed harder than usual to back out. Get about 1/4 of the way out and oil started draining. After finally getting it off, turns out it was indeed cross threaded. Have been very careful with it in previous changes(or so i thought), so i don't know how the hell it happened. Is what it is at this point. :( There were a couple of shavings hanging, albeit not loose. Where do i go from here? Can't screw this up..

I don't, but i can get one. Not doing a thing until i can determine the best move from here. Most worried about anything that may have been introduced when i did last oil change, or after just removing the plug. Picking the brain of the pro's on here to decide best route forward.

Your filter will pick up that stuff. If you're worried get a magnet in there.

Any suggestions on where to get a tap for it? Can't get far enough under it to see how the threads look on the pan. Plug is somewhat boogered. Don't know if i should try threading it back in or not. Trying to get a good picture of it but my phone isn't cooperating.

You can pick up a circular magnet with a pull rating of 95 LBS from Harbor Freight for $5 and attach it to the bottom of your drain pan

if you're worried about cross threading, a fumoto valve works great. been running mine for over 40k miles, no issues.

I’ve run Fumoto on other vehicles, but was concerned on this Mustang because of the oil drain plug location...but yours hasn’t had any issues?

nope. my car is low enough that my HFCs and even LTHs will hit speed bumps if i'm not careful, but never had an issue with the valve hitting anything. fwiw, my car has about 3.25" of front frame rail ground clearance.

This was going to be my suggestion. I run one on my Subaru, works awesome.

You just gotta add some on top of the engine to balance it out. Or you could just magnetize the crank and add the magnets with the same pole pointing towards the crank all around, that way the crank would spin super fast
