I think you're missing the point, I have a F150 with the 8 foot bed and can just throw my bike in the back, but also have the tailgate mat for a couple reasons. 1 it's easier to get the bike in and out, I don't need to get into the bed. 2 it's a lot easier when there are multiple riders. I can fit 4 bikes on the mat and 2 maybe 3 if I just put them in the bed laying down.

No, I'm certainly not missing the point! I'm all about whatever works for you, and to each their own! I love owning a truck and biking is awesome, so whatever you gotta do to make it work... Do it!

also, that picture makes me sad.
No reason to be sad, good times were had!

also, holy crap bikes can get expensive fast :D
My car obsession takes away from my bike obsession (and vise-versa). Here's my Santa Cruz Hightower CC, a beast right out of the box. My relationship with the local bike shop allowed me to be the one to pull it from it's box and put together, a bit like doing the prep on a new car yourself.

something wrong with you, then. Coastal inlet, high bordering cliffs, calm water, pretty blue car with popping split-spoke 5 wheels...
All true except location, Lake Willoughby in northern Vermont is anything but coastal lol

I’ve built a couple of those. The internal cable routining has a steep learning curve but once you get it, you are good to go.
Very nice bike BTW.

Can and should take a backseat to must. My '17 V6 is the only car I have to transport bicycles. I have bicycled more miles this year than driven. Four suction cups hold the Yakima rail. They stick!
