Our PP GT bone stock was faster(Low 1:24's to high 1:24's) than the RS on a tight track. Maybe C&D needs to learn how to drive these cars to their potential. Real world track times (not magazines) has not presented an RS faster than a Mustang.
Yes... A GTPP at VIR should be a sub-3:00 car. Fear is not their friend.

My exact thoughts...different platforms. It's an AWD pocket-rocket - not my cup of tea. I like a V8 with a great sounding exhaust that's rear-wheel drive.

Ford's offering a number of cool vehicles for the public to include trucks that appeals to all types (which is great IMO). I'm not losing sleep over this revelation, I'm a light-to-light guy anyway. In fact I encountered a S197 last week in Mexico :D when it was only the two of us on the road and I came out on top. The day that I encounter one of these things at a light and I get smoked is when it's time to add more power :headbang:
Hell, it's a fast-ass car. Why should we get bent out of shape? The Mustang is also a fast-ass car. They're different cars. BFG.

Plus, it's cool that Ford is pushing the envelope. The Focus RS is competing against more expensive rivals from Europe, the Mustang is a hit in Europe and Oz (who would've thought?) and the new Ford GT is looking to be killer. I wish Ford's QC were better, but it's freaking awesome that we're creating things out of Dearborn and Flat Rock that are finally capable of taking on staid Euro brands.

They tested the cars on different years different drivers etc. You really can't say the Focus RS is faster unless you test them on the same hour of the day, same driver, and same track.

If I was gonna title this thread it would be something like this "Focus RS destroys the others in it's class".. Its not a muscle or pony car and deserves no mention in comparing to my PP GT..
The OP titled it that way because he drives an Ecoboost. You know how some of those guys like to disparage the GT every chance they get.

Yeah...and I can't believe they would compare a car with a turbocharger against one that has to use 1 atmosphere of air pressure.

The Focus RS is available with Sport Cup tires, guys. Can we just drop that? Adding those tires to the Mustang can be done but it's going to cost more money on top of the purchase price. Why not bolt on a set of turbos while you're at it?

Where do you draw the line?

Heck rename it Mavrick, just not Granada.
Ford is already using the name Maverick on SUV's in Europe, so they can't use it on the Focus.

I certainly don't think the RS deserves any hate. I't a pretty awesome car. While it won't work for me with what I need my car to do right now, I still want one. There's some history behind the Focus RS. Just not in the US. Lots of pretty awesome Fords started out as just basic vehicles.
I believe the first Ford RS was offered in 1968. They have been Sierras, Capris, Escorts, Focuses, etc. over the years. All basic vehicles turned great with RS upgrades.

People in the US have begged Ford to bring their awesome European models here for decades. Here's another one (RS) so we should be glad that Ford listened to those people. Maybe someday we could get FPV Falcons from Australia built & offered here in the US, too (us V8 guys can dream, right?).

There is a dealership around me selling their RS for 48k!!! For that price you could get a gtpp, set of turbos, tires, and more. I like the RS but those ADMs are nuts in some areas.

Tires are some of the most frequently replaced consumables on a vehicle. Assuming you go through your set of showroom rubber, the net cost to change tire compounds is nill. Can we just drop the slippery slope fallacy?

Exactly!

A vast majority of mustang owners would prefer to have a high quality, all season tire come stock on their vehicle. These are daily drivers after-all. Anyone who cares about tracking their car (a vast minority) would have no issues buying a cheap set of wheels with rubber for track duty. Magazine track times using stock rubber is a novelty, but it does not highlight the true capabilities of the vehicle.

Focus RS with cup 2's and my box stock GT both at Sebring on Friday. Driver of the RS is an experienced driver. GT was 3 seconds a lap quicker. Discussion over. The RS is a great car. It's not as fast as a GT on the track.

I hear what you're saying but in this context, I think this argument point is just an excuse for the one we like better. These comparisons are done with box stock cars. That's a perfectly ok line to draw.

Tires, when chosen by the owner, are a modification.
If tires don't count, why not just run slicks?

Likewise, it's perfectly ok to point out that the OEM PZeros on a GT/PP will last 15k miles with moderate use. I got almost 20k out of mine...the Sport Cup tires on the RS likely won't last 10k.

Impossible Jim, C&D Lightning Lap is gospel around these parts :)
