Not sure if this helps. The 10.2 Horiz has a key1 wire.

Boot Modes:
Download Method 1: Hold "HOME" hardware button and press 'Reset" button. Release "HOME" button at update mode screen.
Download Method 2: Short "Key1" wire to ground will force download mode.

Recovery Method 1: Enter "reboot recovery" command from a command line (terminal or adb).
Recovery Method 2: Attach a USB keyboard. Hold "Alt" key AND "Print Screen". While holding, keep tapping "i". When the system restarts, it should trigger a restart in recovery mode.

It would be really cool to see the guys in this thread dig into the other unit as they did for this one. I like both but i like the idea of keeping factory climate control buttons. I like being able to turn the air up and down without taking my eyes off the road.

Well, I ended up losing over a grand on the fiasco with the Tesla unit Pilot/Launch. Granted, it was due to miscommunication, and the fact that I hate math... but If there's enough interest in the 10.2 horizontal unit, I could work with a distributor in China on it. It's looking like another 6 months before the next Tesla revision happens anyways.

I know this HU has a recovery for sure. I've seen it working on another car. It doesn't need to touch the Key1 either... It's by holding buttons.

The keyboard method works I can get into recovery with that.

Yeah, I'm abandoning the Tesla efforts, and moving on to the 10.2 - It has a more native Android UI, a recovery option, and hard HVAC controls.
