See you next week. I'm going with my brother, if the airline Gods allow a plan to fly on schedule. It has taken four tries to find planes that fly cross country anymore. I might have to drive home at this rate.

Thanks everyone. My old drag racing days were long ago and the harness/helmet requirements were pretty lax. We are getting excited about the trip. We will be visiting colleges before and after my track days. Will be driving all over N & S Carolina.
Zaxbys has pretty good chicken sandwiches!
You'll love the experience!
It took a little getting used to the H.A.N.S device and the helmet, but, it didn't take long!

I’m trying to book a flight that leaves the same day as the track attack. What time does the day end? Can I make a flight leaving at 6PM?

I just did the Track Attack yesterday. Left at 5:05PM, headed to the airport, gassed up the rental car and was at my gate by 6PM. Maybe cutting it close.

How was it? Any insight you can provide for someone going next week?

It was a lot of fun, a rough agenda:

AM - Classroom 30 minutes, cover driving line, tire grip, weight transfer, get fitted for helmet and race suit
Head to dragstrip parking lot in your assigned car
3 activities (Small autocross course with Normal/Sport/Track modes, Threshold braking and heel/toe runs down the 1/8 mile, Oversteer/Understeer in the Taurus cars)

Lunch - Box lunch provided but it was good

PM - Head to the roval course inside Charlotte Motor Speedway, you'll be assigned a group or 2-3 cars with an instructor.
3 progressively faster sessions about 10-12 minutes on the roval with a lineup change on every lap (car behind instructor drops back and car(s) behind them move up, that car then gets the rear)
Demo laps ride along with an instructor.

Great experience fastest my group hit was 125-130 coming out of the banked turns the rest of the road course is pretty tight. They will move people around if you are slowing down your group so that if you are faster you get to drive with the faster drivers. You can basically drive at whatever speeds you are comfortable with. When you are the car behind the instructor they give you feedback thru the helmet headset while on the course. Two opportunities on the course to downshift from 4th to 3rd with heel/toe so some good practice and I felt comfortable with it by end of day.

I know others will say don't get the liability insurance but I recommend it. All it takes is one mistake and it doesn't even have to be yours to really mess up a car traveling over 100mph.

Great write-up Scott... spot on my friend.
One additional thing, don't worry about drinking coffee in the morning and then having to pee... there are bathrooms nearby in the am & pm with plenty of chances to use them during both sessions.
I did not drink coffee since I was worried about pit stop availability.
In hind site, I would of ordered a large coffee to start the day.

I agree with Scott, for a first timer, they show you what the car's capabilities are for.
For me it was the biggest adreline rush I've ever had. Now exploring where I can try next.

I was a Newbie and I learned a lot there.
I learned just enough to be dangerous now.

I really want to go, but do not want to fly right now with the pandemic raging...being on the complete opposite side of the country, I don't have any choice. I'm afraid I'm going to miss out on my opportunity as I bought my car in March of this year.

Not trying to change your mind, just offering my experience, but I just got back from my trip to Sacramento from Houston with my family of six. The airports are easy to get through and the flights are less than half full. IMO, no better time to fly than right now. That being said, neither me or my wife wear masks anywhere unless we absolutely have to. I think we visited NorCal just in time to beat the second round of shutdowns. Unfortunate situation for so many reasons...

Adding on to that - one of my relatives is a flight attendant for a major carrier. They're pretty firm about "no masks = no flight", ensuring people are distancing, etc. My relative says that they are back up to working multiple flights a week, cross-country, etc.

Everyone makes their own risk decisions, but if you are interested, it's maybe worth spending more time talking to people with recent flight experiences and determining the ground truth vs whatever panic porn is in the news.
