So I plan on later tuning my 18’ GT after i order my Corsa’s. I got some LTH for a STEAL (currently a college student) i do a lot of driving. Had the car for only a year and put 30K up just from driving back and forth to work everyday. I will end up doing a 91/93 octane but with headers I can’t run without a tune. Are there any tunes for 87 octane for a 18? If so are there any that I could put on the NGauge? Idc about performance in this situation when it comes to daily driving so please keep those comments away.

Get on e85 its usually cheaper than 87 octane anyway. It will get worse MPG but youll gain like 40 hp.

You shouldnt be modding at all if you cant afford 93 octane imo.. but they may be able to tune just for turning off your check engine light from adding the headers... youll be paying basically 500 for nothing though unless you have a 300a with 10r80 , in that case they may be able to make your shifting better.

  1. You can run headers without a tune. I ran Kooks with green cats on my 2016 for a year without a code. Though I'm taking a guess that the LTH you got don't have green cats if you got them for a steal.
  2. I've seen folks request an 87 and 89 octane tune but with your setup it literally would be to lose the catalytic converter code.
  3. Unless you live near E85 stations, I wouldn't recommend going E85 if you put that much mileage on your car. You will be literally driving pump to pump.
Put the Corsa's on and hang on to the headers until you can afford a 93 octane tune and run on 93 octane.

Idk what you mean by “300a” but yes I have a 10r80. And literally what im saying is my daily driving would be low octane. Then say weekends or when im not doing as much driving then I would have the real tune. I just heard it wasn’t safe to drive LTH without a tune

Even if I had cats would they specifically have to be “green” cats to run without a tune safely? Or could they be cats regardless?

300a package is the base model without the transmission modes

LTH and some CAI are recommended by the manufacturers to have a tune for the chance that it may run lean causing engine failure.

Yes, they are designed to produce sufficient emissions reduction to satisfy the computer that the cat is working. The other aftermarket cats are more show than function. Plus green cats are the only cats that are approved to run boost with.

if you cant afford the price delta between 93 octane and 87 octane, you cant afford to tune the car. are you currently running 87 only right now?

You aren’t reading what I’m asking. Im asking is there anyway a NGauge can hold a 87 tune for daily driving during the week. I can afford it, i can also look at ways to save money if im doing 300+ miles a week. Reasons of me asking.

I hear you boss but what im asking is....during the weeks if im doing all that driving if there was a way i could use a tune back down to 87 till i decide to turn it back up is there a tune? And if so can a NGauge hold that tune?

Just buy a beater $1500. Or deal with it. You’re gonna wanna go fast during the week, why risk a blown 3rd gen coyote (which is on DI, which can be picky about fuel) over 2200 a year?

an nGauge can hold whatever tune you want. It’s up to the tuner as to wether or not they want to tune 87 on longtubes for you.

300 a week is 1200 a month that 14400 a year

cheapest 87 is 2.14 a gallon here

cheapest 93 is 2.59 a gallon here

14400/17 (MPG) is 856 gallons a year

856*2.14 is 1831

856* 2.59 is 2217

2217-1831 is $386 per year, barely over 1 dollar per day............ to make 20 more HP the entire time, safer...

Yes an Ngauge will hold as many different tunes as you want. You will need to find a tuner that will make you a 87 and 93 tune, I am sure someone would but I have no idea as to which ones. Simple solution is to get HPtuners and turn the CEL off for the longtubes and be done with it.

In all honesty your probably riding the knock sensors on 87 with the stock tune. I wouldn't even run a 18+ on anything less than 91 if it was me.

Call/email a tuner and ask them. The first hand source is ALWAYS your best means of information.
