Doing some 'net reading, the BG keeps coming up as a better alternative than the Amsoil. Grimace, would you recommend using it with the XL-18 additive, or stand alone?
FWIW, My notchy shifts are really not that bad. I'm just anal about it being a new car and if I can improve it, I'm going to do my best.
I don't recommend using the XL-18 additive in anything other than factory fluid and when recommended by your dealer's service department. Since the additive was originally implemented by Ford I can't really say how it should be used other than what Ford recommends.
If you choose a different fluid like BG or Amsoil use it by itself with no additives.
Amsoil makes quality products but I don't have any personal experience with them, certainly not enough to compare them to the BG fluid I recommend.
For mild issues with shift quality it's a good idea to swap the fluid on your own. If you really had bad shifting issues I would advise against working on it yourself and get the repairs covered under warranty. Contact Deysha from Ford Customer Service right here on the forum if your local dealer gives you any trouble.
