I just placed an order for an Ngauge and Lund tune through Beefcake. According to the tracking info I received, the device should arrive tomorrow, but I don’t' expect I'll have the tune for another week or so. I've done my best to read up on how to use the device, but haven't found much. Hopefully that’s a good thing and the Ngauge is just easy to use. I've had some bad experiences messing with tunes on an unrelated platform so I'm a little gun shy in messing with this stuff, and just want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

First, I assume I can go ahead and get the Ngauge plugged in and use it to monitor some things before the new tune is loaded, right? I'm curious to see what kind of knockR readings and total timing the car sees on the stock tune just to compare to the Lund tune. Second…once I get the emailed tune from Lund and load it to the device…do I need to take any extra steps to save the stock tune? I read their user guide and it doesn't mention anything about this so I assume it's all done at the same time as the tune is loaded. If this is the case…will it be obvious how to switch back to the stock tune if I ever need to? I know the Ngauge can store several tunes. I'm hoping this is where the stock tune is saved as well. Any additional tips and tricks for using the gauge or loading tunes?
Thanks

Doesn't it just flash over the existing tune? Curious about returning to the stock tune too.

It saves the stock tune before it flashes the Lund tune

The gauge will automatically save the stock tune when you flash the Lund tune. It will take extra time the first time you flash because of this. I'd keep a battery tender on it for the first flash just in case.

You can use the supplied cable to plug your laptop into the Ngauge or take the micro SD card out and plug it into your computer. Just copy off the stock file.

Dumb question...I'm assuming once plugged in, the gauge turns on and off with the car's ignition (or push button in accessory mode). Is this when you flash the tune....accessory on, engine off?

Yep, that is correct. It will direct you what to do. Tune will flash in about 7-10 minutes with a progress bar, then itll say wait 10 seconds and start the car, and voila.

I got my gauge and loaded my tune this evening. I hit some snags at first but after messing with it for a couple hours I figured it all Out. I still am not sure what I initially clicked on wrong, but when I was messing with the gauge function, i must have done something wrong as all of a sudden all the lights turned off in the car and a status bar showed up on the gauge. It took about 5 minutes to load whatever it was doing, so I assumed I accidentally flashed the tune without meaning to quite yet. Once it finished doing it's thing, I started the car and "service advancetrak" displayed but I pressed "ok" on the steering wheel a few times and it went away. I took the car for a drive and was pretty dissapointed because the car felt.....the same. I came back home and followed the directions to flash the tune again. I must've done it right this time as I got different messages, it took longer, and most importantly the car runs much stronger now. Like I said....not sure what I did wrong the first time but everything seems good now

Pro tip in case someone uses this thread to search in the future.....you must rescan the ngauge to find 2008+ ford gas engine settings to gain access to all available gauges. By default the ngauge only gives a few gauges to pick from.

I noticed today when looking through the Ngauge files on my PC (while updating the firmware) That I have 2 files in the "stock files" folder. One file name is my full VIN.stk and the other is StockFile.stk. Why do I have two? Can I delete one? Maybe this is from my botched tune download and I somehow ended up with two stock files?

Another question...can I rename the custom tune file Lund sent me? In case he sends revisions I'd like to rename each file so I can easily keep track of them. Same for datalog files...can I rename them?

Thanks

Thanks for the info. Do you know off hand what the file name of your stock tune is? There is a separate folder on the Ngauge's SD card for the stock tunes...just curious what the standard format for the file name is here.
