All this means to me is the S550 aftermarket parts prices aren't going down anytime soon, Frick!

I still think there is a strong case for concurrent production of a large AND small Mustang. Look how Porsche rings the register on the 911 styling by applying that styling to multiple chassis.

Mustang IS ITS OWN BRAND. RING THE REGISTER ON THAT?
There is soooo much money on the table for Ford here.

Mustang Big: 2 Door, full weight, Grand Touring

Mustang Big XUV: CUV/Shooting Brake variant

Mustang Small Hatch: Apply Mustang Styling to 3400# Ecoboost 4/2 door Focus RS based AWD hot hatch

Mustang Small Variant: 3100# Ecoboost 2 door
Not a good ideal the Mustang is a two door sports car anything else is just prostituting the brand name. Anyone else here remember the mid '90 Oldsmobile Cutlass name. GM had the Cutlass, the Cutlass Ciera, Cutlass Supreme, Cutlass Calais and Cutlass Cruiser all of which deluded the name plate identity and killed the Cutlass name and that would do the same to the Mustang.

If this is accurate, when is the next refresh?

2021 or ‘22??

The redesign waiting until ‘25 doesnt jive with the hybrid unit launch unless it’s a very basic system like a 48V or slightly more aggressive sandwich in the transmission like the explorer.

Either way with the currrnt platform it’ll weigh way too much. Over 4000 for a premium 4cyl hybrid coupe haha.

IF they do wait until 2025 the only thing I can guess is that they see how well the nearly 10 year old Challenger is still doing and figure with non-SUV sales down anyway and the S550 still being a strong seller, they can stretch its life out to 10 years too. GT500 brings new hype and a halo to continue helping sales of the regular Mustangs along with possibly another refresh and/or special edition and I can easily see it stretching out to 2025. Not sure I believe it though since all the evidence still points to 2022.

May happen in 2020 after all...
If they use the 2020 Hybrid Explorer's similar setup...
which will use a Hybrid generator built into the 10-Speed transmission and housed inside the transmission's enclosure.

I know for a fact th is in not true news. My friend works at Ford and makes the Mustang. He said 2025 next refresh guys. Thats 100% fact.
Your friend is not wrong, but he’s not correct either. At this moment there are no updates about the future of S650. 2025MY MIGHT be a realistic date though.

We WON’T see a Hybrid S550, so we will need to wait until everything is clear and I can tell you that it was never intended to be a 4cyl.

I used the 4cyl to illustrate my point. A V8 hybrid will be well over 4000lbs.

My point was we need a heavily modified unibody or all new design.

That could be a good idea, the GT500 run will be longer than only 2 years then hahaha. I can see both base and GT500 being “updated” by 2022.
Dang, now this makes me think that the first part of the GT500’s (2020 and 2021) will be in the “low-mid” 700’s (HP) and the 2022-2024 will be a “mid-high” 700’s range…… aaand also an update for the base GT (with Bullitt power, i.e. 480HP).
Or maybe they keep the GT500 the same and only make physical changes for the base model (or both).

What do you mean by “there are no updates” about its future? What happened to the S650?

2025? Obviously Ford (or rather Hackett) aren't serious about producing world class cars as the S550 will be seriously outclassed by then (and I'm not talking about the Camaro/Challenger in terms of competition, but European/Japanese cars, which will have been refreshed or renewed twice by then :frusty:

I could care less about a refresh and to be honest I'd rather see Ford give us 500 ponies standard in the GT without being told to go buy an overpriced GT350 with a silly ADM.

Not exactly. CD6 = Clean Sheet.
The S550 platform is currently based on a RWD version of the aging D4 platform (yes, the same D3 platform that was updated for the 2011 Ford Explorer).
I think it makes sense to move Mustang to CD6 and utilize slightly modified components from S550 such as the double ball joint front suspension and Integral Link IRS. The built-on-CD6 Lincoln Aviator, though in concept guise, seemed to indicate that S550’s IRS will fit.

You think an office chair CEO is concerned about producing world class cars? LOL.
