Well, I did some research last night and went to drive to work today while the snow was packed-on and it's impossible to get ANY traction.

I'm sold on winter tires and dedicated wheels.

What does everyone thing is a good size wheel/tire combo?

Will 18in wheels with a 40 profile tire work since I have 20in with a 35 profile on now?

Thanks again, I really need to order something tomorrow!

I went with dedicated wheels and tires for winter - though i went a/s because I have a truck for snow. Here's what I'd do:
- learn your current tires' circumference
- find a few new tires you like in size that gets very close to that circumference to avoid speedo and other issues - there are good tire size converters online. I'd try for 3/4 in or less difference. on my 19's, .7in meant 1.1 MPH diff. many converters can also tell you how you're speedo will read if you're circumference changes.
- find a wheel that fits one or more of those tires and your car - site sponsors are good at specifying which MY and brake packages their wheels fit
- ask the sellers for advice before you buy
- take your time unless you like selling on eBay - once they're mounted, they're yours; understand return policies too
- Tirerack reviews are very helpful, including how good a tire's traction is. just be sure you read the RWD owners.

Gongrats with your new toy!

Summer tires are indeed tricky in cold weather, even the summer tires on my 150HP FWD focus had issues with cold weather. I sudder to think how it's like to drive with a 300+HP RWD car in those conditions.

My intention is to buy an extra set of wheels with winter tires once I get mine. I had all seasons before, and they are okay, but only for cold/wet weather. Once snow/ice sets in, they are becoming useless, pretty fast. My problem is that in these parts I haven't found much of offer. I'm hoping that will improve once the Mustang becomes more common on this side of the pond.

Nice and welcome! But as is commonly said, without pictures this did not happen :). Yes A/S will be much better in the snow. Love the DIB, it is gorgeous!

Thanks for the kind words, but which didn't happen? The terrifying drive in the snow, or the car purchase? :)

If it's the car, pics will be up when I get back from work, they'll be iPhone pics but I'll include the original vehicle sticker so that will hopefully be proof enough.

Hi all, I just bought a Deep Impact Blue EB Mustang yesterday.

I just came back from my first drive in the snow and holy shit that was scary. I got the 20" Foundry wheels with summer tires and there's no traction what so ever.

I barely got out of a Walgreens parking lot, and I know that it's only gonna get worse.

My question is this: Will all season performance tires like the Continental ExtremeContact DWS help at all?

Thanks very much, and happy to be here! :headbang:
Congrats! We have the exact same setup: M/T EcoBoost Premium in Deep Impact Blue with the 20" wheels. Oddly, I actually have Continental ExtremeContact DWS tires on my wheels. They've been pretty good in the snow so far. Luckily, my dealer ordered and installed those tires at no cost and kept the Pirellis the car came with from the factory.

Sweet, I was actually going in just to test-drive one; thinking, I'll look at some of the colors and see if something hits out at me. I was kinda into magnetic but it didn't look that good in person I felt.

Options, or rather option, was right, haha, and so was the price at $100 below invoice, so I went for it.

Anyway, here are the glamour shots; gritty street photography to follow. :frusty:

Uh no...if you live in an effin rain forest that is wet as balls all winter and it barely snows but occasionally freezes and is consistently below 40, all season tires make a ton of sense. Winter tires do not.
Not a bad choice for where I live either; some snow but inches instead of feet, big short term temperature swings in winter & spring, and an occasional urge to drive south for a weeks vacation in winter.

Other thing is I don't think A/S get a fair account. Winters work best in true winter temps and or ice & snow. Summers work best in true summer temps. I think there are probably common conditions in spring & fall where A/S is actually the best performance choice.

I don't assume it's customary that a dealer would order and swap out the summers for winters at no cost, is it? It's a great service if they do, but what then do they do with the spare summers? Swap again? They're not in the tire business. Alternatively, if you want to keep the summers , is it customary for a dealer to install winter or a/s tires you purchase prior to delivery?

Thanks!!

Awesome. Congrats! Wasn't totally sold on the blue when I saw it in photos but was blown away when I saw it at the dealer. I'm sure you will be very happy with your Mustang.
