I don't know the factory setup they have on the voodoo, and what the bore sizing vs piston size stackup is. Have you seen it anywhere? .
I haven't seen that information.

This is caused from a short piston skirt. Another reason the use of piston coatings are used.

Honestly, I would think there was something wrong with an 8200 RPM motor that *didn't* have some extra noise and rattles. Ever heard the cam noise out of a solid lifter motor? The high-revving engines of the late 60s had to use that kind of valve train just to turn 7000+, and they sounded like hell. No one complained about piston slap because they couldn't hear it over the sound of the lifters, pushrods, rocker arms, and valves slapping each other due to the clearances required. And yes, these were factory production engines.

While some might question piston slap (and valve train noise - I hear both in mine) as "acceptable" engine noises from a $60k car, someone else might just as well complain about supercharger whine from a GT500, Z06, and the like. What sounds good to you might worry someone else and vice versa.

My point is, yes different engine "noises" are simply part of having a car that will do things no other car can do.
I love the sound of my solid roller cam and Jessel rockers in my 401 svo Windsor. Also my 272 1956 f100 has a solid cam. I love engine music. The more mechanical the better for me.

I have hope then. How many miles do you have?
800ish. The thing that I'm doing different (after reading several break in posts) is drive very easy keeping the rpm's down and the load off until the engine oil gets up to about 190. Then, I will start to drive it harder until the oil is in the 210ish range and the motor is completely warmed up.

Another thing that I am doing (and maybe it doesn't matter) is to occasionally bring the rpm's up to or near 8000 and then ease off on the gas to idle and let the engine wind down to low RPM's on the motors own compression. I've read it has something to do with seating the rings. Other people have commented that technique is bonk and not applicable to this motor. I also widely vary RPM's and I am not afraid to drive along at higher RPM's once the motor is warmed up.

Take it for what it is worth, but that's what I have done.

That's what I'm planning on doing.

Baby'ing this engine too much seems to do more harm than good.

I've read that too.

Well, I wailed on it from the dealership, but I had to drive it 1,000 miles home. The beatings shall continue until moral improves.

I'm not saying beat the crap out of your car..... warm it up properly and vary the RPM's widely. I also use the engines compression from a high RPM just in case there is something to the rings properly seating.

I started out baby'ing my car and when I made the above changes, the rattle stopped even when cold.

Thanks for getting my hopes high with what you just said, mine only has 350 miles and it is driving me crazy.

I wait until it's warmed up to commence the floggings. Don't worry.

Skirtless piston technology has been has been around decades now if not longer. The 69 BOSS 302 had skirted forged TRW pistons and they generally slapped (I own one). Most noticeable on cold start up Once fully warmed up, you can hardly tell. Having bad hearing helps quite a bit too.
