Hey guys just wanted to introduce myself, been lurking for awhile just decided to join. Anyways about my car, picked up a 15 ecoboost perf pack competition orange at the end of november with 18k on the odo. Car was bone stock, went out and bought a cobb accessport and jlt intake, running on the canned cobb stage 1 tune. Car was tits for the first 2 months i had it, then last week smelled coolant when i got home from work, popped the hood and couldnt see any leaks. Next morning come out for work and theres a small puddle of coolant under the oil pan dripping off the side of the block. Couldnt see any leaks so tuned her back to stock and put the stock intake back on and into the dealership she went.

Got a call back later that day from the dealer, the head craked right behind the next to the turbo manifold. Long story short shes getting a new motor right now, under warranty. They didnt say a thing about it being tuned(got lucky on that one). So am i just lucky and got a defective head or has anyone else had this problem?

Awesome that Ford is fixing it. Sucks to happen to a car with such low mileage though.

Picking up a used 15 is a gamble. I'd wait a while before playing poker or investing in any penny stocks. You've used up some luck on that one.

Ford Performance all the way next time. Some dealers just sell it. The one dealer I found is very tune friendly and you would have to do something completely stupid to f up the warranty.

After reading about other turbo and their delivery systems, like the q60 twin turbo, I wonder how cheap Ford is about how precise their boost control is. Infiniti uses some sophisticated tech to see how quick the turbo is spinning to measure boost pressure for precise A/F mixture to max out the engine. Ford likely leaves a lot of head room because it does not invest in such technology so it could really be the luck of the draw every time you push it.

Ford invested heavily in "ecoboost" and seeing how it's just about in every vehicle line, I would find it hard to believe they would be "guessing" at it.

If it's a completely new motor, you should get the updated engine. If they are rebuilding, it's a 50/50.

Correct me if i'm wrong. isn't in the best interest of a dealer to fix anything that could be warranty no matter what caused it? Because the dealer makes $$ (yes less then normal rate) but they are making an hourly rate from ford to fix your car. This keeps the dealers lights on and pays wages. So i'd think a dealer will fix anything with out diggin. But on the other hand what is fords procedure? because it's not in the best interest of ford to fix everything? How does ford police the dealers?

For small warranty work its usually up to the dealer's discretion. For bigger warranty work (ie, engine replacement) a warranty rep comes out to inspect it...at least that was the case when I worked at Mazda.

Just curious about this statement, do you refer to inferior build or just potential abuse it has endured in general?

Both. Early engine builds coupled with abuse, improper break-in, dealer demos, test drives. Who's to say how that thing was treated. Not to say all the early models were bad, but take one that was built with improper tolerances, throw some abuse at it for 10K miles. Would you want it next?

I bought a used 2015, certified pre-owned from ford. Cylinder 3 went a couple months ago on my Spain motor. Dealer is replacing it with a new block.

I am also very lucky. My experience will probably not be typical. The motor did not blow. Either the seals or the rings went and the car had a perm. misfire in #3. I was able to limp it around for a short time.

That's absolutely true, that's one of the reasons you should never buy first year intro model sports cars. I mean just think about it, it's new.. people want to see what it's got both people within the dealer and customers so there is a high chance of mistreatment amplified by manufacturing X and Y's.

If the design of the S550 wasn't so goddamn sexy, I probably would've been able to hold off a couple of years.
