Ok guys so I got a funny story for you guys. I had a dealer contact me about the new mustang. I talked on the phone with the internet manager ( at least he called himself that ) the conversation went well. The guy told me he will send a text and email with his information so that Monday I can go see him. Not only did he send me a text but he sent me another text which was a sext text for someone else. The text itself was very nasty . I replied to him and he freaked out. He called me the next day seeing if I'm still interested in the mustang so I said yes and that I'll be seeing him Monday. Now I won't blackmail him seeing as that's messed up and I understand it wasn't for me. What kindd of discount do you guys expect from this?

I would expect to pay exactly what the dealer paid and not a penny more!

I was planning on the v6 stang but I might just upgrade to the v8 with the options so I can take advantage of his mistake. I don't know what kind of pulls he can get as the internet sales manager but surely he can make it work.

Yep, you got him. I would bring it up at all until the end and say "you sent me a pretty nasty text, I'm sure that's worth a more off the car" I would be careful how you word things as blackmail is illegal, but I think that text is worth something.

Pay invoice price or under invoice since they still make money (3%of invoice) when they sell a car at invoice its called holdback.

I wouldn't goto the dealer to negotiate. Do it over email, also contact other local dealers and get quotes on the exact mustang you want and this will give you extra leverage as some will come in lower than others

Uh dude the guy has a manager who won't let him give a quasi blackmail discount. He will say it's out of his hands.

Honestly I wouldn't expect you to get any kind of insane discount over this. Anything like that would still have to go through the GM, even if he is the ISM. He won't be able to do much more without coming clean. Even if you threw him under the bus, which it doesn't sound like you want to do (I don't blame you, I wouldn't either), any make right they offer would likely come in the form of free oil changes or something along those lines.

What I imagine this will do is cut a lot of the BS involved with getting to that lowest price.

I stopped negotiating at dealerships for the 2011 model year and have bought 7 vehicles since. Each time I have been in and out in less than 2 hours, depending only on the line to get to the finance office to sign all the paperwork. When I bought my C7 I was in and out in 38 minutes since I had an appointment.

Make the deal before you leave your house and go to the dealer that gives you the right numbers. Just bring the emails with you on your phone so you have written text incase they try to adjust anything on you.

Wouldn't the dealer that gives me the best deal be the 1 with the ism? Sure I can get quotes from other dealers and use it as a negotiating tactic

I figured he would have to run it through the GM for invoice price but surely he's gotta have some kinda of discount he can get me

You might want to google blackmailing laws before you try to pull it as a "negotiating" tactic. If the text bothered you that much, let the manager know and get a new sales person. You are more likely to get a better deal that way if you show the dealership you're willing to still do business with them after the incident.

Of course, as everyone else has already stated here, it doesnt take much to get a good deal close to invoice. There are plans out there that you sign up for (x-plan) that does it without any negotiating whatsoever.
