Have you actually seen a bent suspension because of crossing the tie down straps? Its not my preferred way to do it...I prefer to go straight forward and straight back but that at times is hard to get set up. Some of my friends use cross tying and have never bent anything. So I was curious at to why you say this? I would agree with you that E track is great but its not an easy install in a trailer without it.
All you need is a few feet of Etrack in the appropriate areas. It’s not difficult to install. I think I would rather put down 5’ of track than carve out a spot for recessed d-ring but anyway, yes, I came to a sudden stop on the way to road america years ago. It bent both toe links on the rear of my 2000R. We beat them back into shape and ran the car. The only trailering problems, damage, and load shifting problems I’ve ever had have been crossing straps. That’s all I know. Never had problems going over the tire. YMMV. The other advantage is not needing to crawl under the car. I’m lazy.
