Hi everyone, so I have a 2016 GT California Special with the stock Pirelli tires (255 40 R19)

I think the CS wheel is 8.5" (not completely sure)

One thing I hate is sometimes when stepping it on a bit the car tries going to the left. I've been told this is because of the tires. It's almost time to change tires so I am wondering some opinions.

I recently got a 2011 750Li (4.4L Twin Turbo V8) BMW and that car has 20" wheels, I can step on it no issues (it's also automatic though). So I am hoping the tires help with this issue.

I was originally looking at Michelin Super Sport tires but now am looking at Pilot Sport 4S tires. [Just found out about them]

A friend's friend told me about Pirelli Cinturato P7 & Goodyear Maxlife but those don't seem that good.

This is my DD, I have 37k miles right now, got it in Jan 2016. I drive normal with occasions of spirited driving, no track.

Also would staggered help at all or keep it the way it is?

I'd like to keep it under $1,300 total but also want decent tires. I've been told the PS4S only last 30k miles so that's also something I am factoring in. This is the first time I am buying good tires for my car. I have always bough "okay" tires before but I've heard so much about how much difference good tires make and need to tame 450+ HP lol

Yeeeah your comparing a car thats AWD and weighs 1000lbs more than your S550.

Also the GT CS comes with Pzero Nero UHP correct? Perf Summer tires will greatly improve traction. Those are 19x8.5" rims.

If the car is consistently going left, your rear toe and/or camber are probably a little asymmetric.

Letting go in the first place is tire grip, which direction it lets go is often alignment.

Would just keeping the same tire size but replacing with high performance summer tires make a big difference?

Thanks for the replies guys.

The BMW is RWD. "xDrive" models are AWD, mine is RWD.

Yes those are the tires the car has right now. Which tires would you recommend? I was thinking of getting the Pilot Sport 4S.

I don't think it's alignment. Car only goes left sometimes when stepping on it (kidna like it breaking out I think is the term?)

As mentioned before, your tires will totally change the the feeling of your car. Especially if you go from your current A/S tires to Max/Ultra high performance summer tires. I'm sure others will have differing opinions but for me it is Michelin. Yes they cost more but they are worth it. The new Conti ExtremeContact Sport are also exceptional but that's your choice. As a daily driver I'm thinking tire rotation will be more import than the slight performance improvement of going staggered. Stick with a squared setup.

Lastly regardless of the tires you choose, get an alignment.

Yeah Michelin Ps4s are top of the Mark for street use. Anything perf summer will be far superior than an all season tire. Indy 500 and Nitto 555s are also great options.

My stock GT has 235 pzero neros the tires broke loose constantly just like yours. Also got locked out of 3rd frequently. (Mt82)

The PP rims/tires pretty much solved that problem.

Thanks guys, looks like I'll go with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S of my same current tire size [255/40/R19]

I'l probably get them in a couple months to properly use up my current tires.

I'm assuming it's better to get the Pilot Sport 4S instead of completely changing the wheels as well? I really like my CS wheels but would going to something like 20" x 10.5 or 20" x11 make a big difference over my current size with Pilot Sport 4S?

Not quite apples to apples, but 2015 GT with stock tires of 235/50R18 low price performance tire (from previous owner) and just switched to a 285/30R20 PS A/S 3+ (its a year-round daily driver) and the difference between the 50 series and the 30 series was amazing. Of course, a lot of what I'm feeling is the wider tire and improved tire compound and tread, compared to the junk that was on there previously. Going from a 19" to a 20" tire, you'd loose a full half inch of side-wall height. Some see that as good, some bad. Depends on your goals and expectations. Shorter sidewall gives you (in general) less tire flex, so more feedback in the corners, but less compliance, so more vulnerable to pot holes and a less smooth ride.

You have already told us that this is your DD and you have a budget. The 19’s will give you everything you need. Yes, the 20’s might look better but are you willing to trade off the cost and ride comfort?
