Need help choosing aggressive exhaust

If interested, and for what it is worth.

"Q. Why don't you have sound clips on each of your part numbers?

We really wish we could just package a sound sample in a box like little shampoo bottles or the cologne ads in magazines -- you know, the ones where you pull apart the page and get to actually smell it. But the nature of our product is such that this is not possible.

Although we have posted a few sounds on our website homepage, it's really a disservice to the actual sound quality of our products because they sound so much better in person - no matter what kind of computer speakers you have.

Recorded with a microphone - There are thousands of different microphones available and they all sound different from one another. Record the same system, on the same car, with different microphones and the sound will be different. Variables of condenser mics, dynamic mics, large capsules, small capsules, tubes etc. will all affect the sound you hear on playback. Are you looking to compare microphones or an exhausts?

A compressed sound file - Sound files are normally compressed for web pages and this drastically changes the sound.

Played back through a speaker - Similar to the microphone issue listed in item #1, there are a wide variety of speakers available and they all sound different. The difference in speakers will completely change the sound you hear on playback. Add a subwoofer and it's even less of a true replication of what you will experience after you have installed a BORLA® on your vehicle.

We wouldn't recommend making your buying decision by listening to sound clips on the web. It's like deciding who has the best tomato sauce by recreating the smell they emit with scratch-and-sniffs. There is no substitute for tasting it.

When you hear an exhaust in person, there are certain physical properties of sound that are impossible to recreate with a sound file, such as vibration through the ground and into your inner ear. The sound you hear from our Corvette exhaust, for example, is not just what comes out of the tailpipe. It's rather a combination of sounds coming from the tailpipe tip, the engine, reflections off the ground, resonance of the cabin -- even the reverberation of sound through your body affects what you hear through your inner ear. You can't recreate all of these variables over the Internet, yet they all affect the sound experience of your exhaust. Therefore, whatever you hear over cyperspace cannot be an accurate replication of what you will hear when you install it on your Vette for real. If you're as critical of sound as we are, this is unacceptable.

Pretty different than choosing tomato sauce by scratch and sniff. The sound clips are a decent representation of sound. You can tell if the system is deep, raspy, trumpety, etc.

Unfortunately, Borla has gotten a bit soft at the edges for me. Loved their Stingers on the S197, so deep and loud it would set car alarms off from the bass vibration. Their new systems are way too raspy and trumpety for me though.

Thank you for posting this and I hear what you're saying. I agree that it'll never be identical, but in the case of my clips I think it's very close (the volume discrepancy aside).

No worries.

I'm a bit of a stereo nut / music nut, so the low frequency roll off during recording & play back probably bugs me a lot worse than the average person. Could be that your pc audio system is better adjusted/suited to compensate than mine is also.

I've been rolling around with My Ford racing sport exhaust and I have to agree with the post of sound representations, (I was also a sound engineer for 10 years) and I can tell you this exhaust sounds 10x better in person. Weather it's your cup of tea or not is up to you but I feel this exhaust is extremely aggressive and sounds amazing in person. I have had a few mustangs all of them had multiple different exhaust set ups of all kinds of combos of mid pipe or headers/mufflers, so I'm pretty up on the exhaust game. Unfortunately all of this is based on opinion so it's all a matter of taste. There is no "best" exhaust just different tones and volumes. Until these cars are in abundance and we can all regularly hear these things in person , it's a crap shoot. when I listen to exhaust clips on the Internet I say to myself that it's a very basic idea of the sound.
I more so look for how the tone responds to throttle through the RPM range. I can say that this exhaust (FRPP SPORT) sounds VERY deep in low Rpm which is completely absent in every video I've seen. It is a much fuller sound than represents online. Again this is ALL a matter of opinion on what sounds the best or most aggressive. With that said I absolutely LOVE this exhaust. But who cares what I like right? Lol

Same exhaust (assuming you have the catback) & same impressions.

Could be that the lost bass information on playback is more prominent with exhausts that have more midrange information? Might explain why some folks find the sound clips representative & others don't.

I was parked next to CO at Cars and Coffee this last weekend with the SW/X catback, I have the FRPP Sports. I asked to listen to his since that's what I almost ordered originally. I love the way it sounds in the videos. In person (as mentioned above) the sound was a lot different. It was deeper sounding than mine but surprisingly seemed just a little quieter, and I do mean only a little. Kinda like comparing a scream when you step on a snake, to a scream when you slam your worthless good for nothing little toe into a wall. Both are loud but very different. I absolutely love the FRPP Sports, it's one of my favorite exhausts I've ever heard on a mustang. Now I just have to put on the LT's and let her scream just a bit more.

I went with the SW H pipe and I couldn't be happier. I only have the 3.31 gears, and on Sunday I cruised up to Milwaukee and back (about 75 miles round trip) and I did NOT experience any drone. I had exhaust presence, but was totally able to listen to music at volume 12 or so and hear it cleanly. Guessing my gearing helps a little bit, but I also purposely altered my speed and set my cruise at various levels. No drone. And I love how it sounds.
