What comes out of SVT can be would be separate to the base models, which are the 3 we know of (2.3, the V6 and V8).

"ST" is Ford's global performance vehicle arm (although in the US it's still called SVT).

For that reason I don't think it would be called ST or RS. These badges may be used if or when SVT offer a hairier 2.3 model.
My thoughts exactly. Unlike the SVO of past which was a limited special production vehicle of the SVO team, the new 2.3ecoboost will be a standard production vehicle. I have a feeling based on it's popularity that we will no doubt see a hopped up version coming from SVT group, etc. That's the one that should have the special badging, weather it be SV0-2 or SVT4, etc. etc.

As much as I like the thought of an SVO2, I think it would make sense for them to offer a Mustang ST and Mustang RS, seeing that the Focus has the same theme with their hi-po models. Who knows, maybe they will come up with something completely different.
Also, keep in mind that SVT is the official hi-po tuning division for Mustang at the moment. So I wouldn't be surprised if we see something like SVT4 or SVT-T4

But why SVO 2.. why not just SVO ..?
(SVT would be the V6 TT, & the SVO is the I-4 TS)

ST & RS has zero heritage in the Mustang stable, & are monikers of econoboxes. Ford is not chasing Dodge here, no reason to foolishly chase their naming scheme, when Ford has their own.

A thought, how about LX for the base 2.3L and V6 and SVO for the PP 2.3L EB Mustangs? :)

It is my understanding, that for the S550 the v6 is the base model. And the GT you have two upgraded engines, the twin-scroll I-4 & V8.

More to the point, "ecoboost" is an over-used term in Ford's marketing & doesn't carry over to the Mustang livery too well. So, I think they should market it as an SVO.

There is some heritage there (think Cosworth) and don't forget the Merkur XR4ti. I have no doubt the V6 will come with a twin turbo in the form of an SVT, so the V8 crowd will go in a different direction than those of the turbo-stang crowd. vice-verse, etc.

SVO is a logical choice & my vote. Ford can even wrap some high-end performance stuff around it's turbo program, for the aftermarket. Keep it real.

Coincidentally, I think Lincoln should bring that Merkur Euro-flare back, and make their S550 an AWD "shooting brake" hatchback, 4dr.. offered only with this SVO/T EB engine.

No particular reason, just throwing stuff out there.

Ahhhhhhh

I like SVT4 and SVT6... In the tradition of the SVO, named after the company. Each level is identified by the "4" or "6".

I wouldn't mind LX coming back but just as a GT package. Either a sleeper package, stripper ie 1LE or the Tech pack/Luxury pack.

I completely understand the focus on heritage but, we're talking 4 cylinders here. While we do have some options to beckon back to a certain time, we have an opportunity to start new. SVO/SVT isn't bad, I like ST4/ST6. SVT4/SVT6 is also catchy...

ST/RS isn't bad either...

FWIW:

I see ST/RS as monikers that are attached to everyday makes, that are supped up. Not on Sports Cars, built already to perform.

Neon is not a Sports car, so when they do something special to it, it needs a hyped name. Same with Chevy.

Not so for a Corvette, Mustang..

As for SVT4 ~ SVT6.. see no reason for the cylinder designation. If it designed by SVT, then it should carry that name SVT.

Except that LX applied just as much to the 4 cylinders as it did the 5.0's of the era... if anything there were more LX 4 bangers than 5.0's! :)

I like SVO or something Turbo. GT Turbo may not fit, but I think some kind of Turbo badge could be cool. I like SVO for the heritage, but it may not be appropriate for this particular version. Maybe if they made a hi-po I4. I definitely hope there are no ecoboost badges anywhere. Not even on the engine.

Also what is the "Keep it simple, Mustang 4G" supposed to mean? That name doesn't make sense to me.

What was the eco boost called when the first developed it? "twin force" wasn't it? That was more aggressive but I agree this car shouldn't say eco boost anywhere.
