The software company is actually QNX, which was bought by RIM/BB in 2010. They've been around a long time.

Just another hit for Microsoft, which is on a real roll in pissing off consumers with uninspired and non-intuitive software and devices. They've managed to piss off just about everyone in the small business world with three crap OS platforms in a row (Vista, 7, and 8).

Watching them self-immolate is a little bewildering to watch. They've been behind the curve in literally everything lately.

That said, a partnership with Google or Apple might have been a more inspired choice, as there's a good chance RIM might be in Ch. 11 by the time this takes effect. But they were looking for a stable and proven software, and the QNX systems definitely are that.

I hope not. I have had bad experiences with BlackBerry products.

Sorry, I am not familiar with your definition of "self-immolate" - does that have to do with their recent record $24.5B Q2 revenue? Or the fact that "Revenue has increased by 14 percent from the same period last year, and net income increased by 2.8 percent."? Or the fact that "that Office 365 seats and Azure customers both grew over 100 percent in the latest quarter"?

Heck, I hate Microsoft about as much as Apple, but you can't claim they are setting themselves on fire when they are posting record numbers -- no matter how fancy your vocabulary.

By comparison, Apple remained almost perfectly flat from this time last year (no change in net profit -- both at $13.1B).

Get back to me when the windows phone has more than a 5% market share in the U.S. or the crappy Surface out sells Android tablets or the Ipad.

Or when the Xbox makes up its 1 million + sales deficit to the PS4.

And people just love Windows 8. It's saved the PC! LOL.

They are behind the curve, and their recent products have been uninspired at best.

Great news if true. I was gonna be annoyed with MyFordTouch.

Now they just need a telescoping wheel that goes low enough.

Windows 7 is anything but a crap OS.

Windows 7 was the best Microsoft OS ever, IMO. They did mess up the interface of Windows 8 for sure, and even with multiple updates and major changes, it is still difficult for many users to navigate. But technically, the Windows 8 OS itself is even more solid and faster than Windows 7.

I have not experienced the MyFord Touch system yet, but according to the original Car and Driver blog post, that system is largely responsible for Ford's drop in the J.D. Power ratings recently. That's too bad, because the Power ratings for Ford in the past decade were better than ever. As I've said many, many times, my 2005 Mustang has been the most reliable car I've ever owned in my life, and I have not had a single problem with it - never been back to the dealer in fact, even for a minor issue.

It would make sense for them to go to an entirely Google derived OS for the system. That opens so many doors for development and cool track and tuning opportunities.

Many people spend their lives avoiding Google's grip.. it would be a shame to have to pass ups on Fords, because they sided with them.

If I could rid my '11 of the Microsoft name I would. Easy on developers, difficult for customers.

Hopefully this is the last decade we hear from Microsoft.

I love Windows and as such I'd like to try MyFord Touch sometime. As long as it integrates with WP, I'll be more than happy.

Not sure where the hate for Microsoft comes from though. They have solid products and contrary to what was said earlier about their OS, Vista (SP2), Win 7 and Win 8 are all excellent. You can already bypass the Start Screen on Win 8 so navigating it is no longer a problem to those who had one.

Microsoft is 20th Century technology. Apple and Google are 21st Century technology. I'd rather have the latter than the former. Maybe the GNX software can include both iPhones and Android?

That's a lot of American jobs to wish away.
