So ever since I took apart my dash I have had the idea to make toggle switches that would replace the buttons on our base model cars. Well today I finally decided to move ahead with this project! I am going about this a bit differently they I should do because I have to disassemble my dash again. My process will be detailed below
1) finalize exterior design and dimensions
2) decide on finishes (aluminum, black, combination)
3) disassemble dash to get accurate dimensions of button mechanism
4) rebuild button mechanism for testing
5) design system to allow toggle to pivot but act as button
6) finalize design and prototype
The final prototypes will be created from SLA 3D printer with transparent resin. From there I will paint the toggles with the finish I choose. In order to get the backlight symbols I will then use a CNC mill to very carefully remove the paint layer leaving the exposed transparent material underneath.
