Holy crap, seems like the rental car of choice in Maui is the Mustang convertible. A broad mix too. GT's, V6 and EcoBoost. And a few hard tops. I asked about upgrading, but the cost of the upgrade for my time here was equal to my monthly payment due when I get home. :eyebulge:

FWIW, it seems the majority of parking spots on the island is much smaller too. Seriously, right and left wheels touch the parking lines, so everyone takes up more space than allowed just so you can open your damned door.

If I lived here, the Mustang would never get parked anywhere.

Yep, parking spots are terribly small there. When me and my family went, they gave me a Camaro. Such a pain in the ass to open the huge ass doors.
But having the top down is the best way to drive in Hawaii.

Didn't notice that when we were there last year. We had an Xterra that we drove everywhere (Hana included) and didn't have any parking issues.

Maui is not as bad. Honolulu is very bad.

Typical thread....

"They're too small..."

"I know, right! They are so horribly small."

"No, they're perfectly fine".

"Some aren't that small. Others are so very small."

Probably has something to do with Japan's ownership of the islands?

My experience was a lot full of beat up mustangs. We went through two that were torn apart basically before we got one we could actually roll off the lot w. Bumpers hangin, gas door hangin off, interior disgusting, scratches/gashes everywhere etc

That and it helps with the Camaro visibility.

I love rolling around because the tourists driving their Eco or V-6 don't understand why mine makes so much noise.

Parking spots are smaller here. I park in the middle of nowhere every time I park.

We had a Mustang convertible )V6) but needn't have bothered. Had the top up for all but 10 minutes. Sunburn.

Didn't rent a mustang when we went to maui and honolulu this year, but two weeks after I got back home I bought mine!

Wife liked seeing them all over Hawaii too, reminded her of her 89 LX 5.0, so I had the go ahead when we got home.

We vacationed in Maui in 2014 and reserved a compact car. Got to the lot and they were out, so accepted their free upgrade to a larger car and got a Dodge Charger. I never had any idea how huge that car was, it felt like I was driving a bus while trying to get into parking spots in that thing in Maui. There's a lot to be said for renting a subcompact or compact when in Hawaii.

I just took a road trip to the Grand Canyon/Zion/Bryce National parks a few weeks ago, I saw literally hundreds of Mustang convertibles, almost all with Cali plates. I guess if I came to America for the first time I'd rent something like a Mustang too. My 1st trip to abroad you can be rest assured I'll be renting a Skoda, Citroen, or the like.
