Mustang Spare Wheel Feedback

Thank you all for the information and feedback. You can purchase a spare "space saver wheel and tire" from Ford Australia as an accessory at a cost of $1120.00 (AUS) which is a rip-off to say the least. Based on the feedback, what I will now do is buy a 19x9 rim and tire, at around half the cost of space saver wheel, identical to those fitted to the 2016 Mustang Ecoboost and only carry the wheel in the trunk (which will sit about 4 inches proud of the spare wheel well) when taking a long trip. The puncture repair kit that comes with car will likely get me out of trouble where a puncture occurs closer to home.
Thank you - ShadowMustang Australia.

You are welcome. But one correction there, I would take the puncture repair kit that came with the car, throw it in the trash, and get a better set from a reputable dealer. All of the people that have used it on the forum have said it is worthless garbage. Just my 2c. :)

I think I posted that link in one of the threads already linked in this one. Problem was finding one of those wheels. And yes, I originally copied the text/link from another forum. Good memory! :)

Here's the quote from another site...

"On a hunch I ordered a spare tire and wheel found on E-bay that was from a 2013 Hyundai Equus. It has a nice 19" alloy wheel with a T155/70R19 tire and it fits very nicely over the Brembos without using any spacers. I did have to open up the center / hub hole in the wheel about 3mm and get five lug nuts and washers as the wheel takes a flat lug nut /washer type fastener. It fits in the spare well but is just a little on the tight side. If I had a email address for you I'd be glad to send some pics if you want to see it."

Here's the thread here that it was posted in....

Turns out it was a Hyundai Equus wheel.

I'll probably go the same route of the $164 wheel and cheap ebay tire just so I have a full size wheel that I can use longer term.

Theres more info about it in this thread:

I managed to find one myself. I need to grind out the center hub still.

And yes, it's a tight fit in the the spare wheel compartment.

I put one of my summer tires in the well just in case. It fits in there, but sticks up a bit. I sort of like it (assuming you can make something to hold that mat in place. I leaves space on the side good for holding groceries so they don't fly all over the trunk when doing some maneuvers.

A summer tire in the wheel well is a good idea. But how do you jack the car to change the tire without a jack and lug wrench? Call AAA?

A scissor jack and wrench should be pretty compact and fit in the hollow of the wheel.

Even if you can't change your order, if you buy it from the link I listed above it is only $201. List price to order from factory is I believe $195.
