I heard that Ford just invested heavily on a gen 4 5.0, and that the Romeo line is closing next year. That means no more 6.2/5.2 engines. Maybe the rumored 6.8 is coming to light. Any more info on this?

I read somewhere that a person within the company who's working on the 7.3 program said there's no plans to bring it to the Mustang that he knows of. So I'm doubtful. I suspect that the 5.0 will run its course, and then they will follow GM with the next performance Mustang being electric or at least hybrid electric.

"Just" heavily invested in a Gen 4?

With all due respect, I suspect that investment was agreed several years ago in preparation for S650 in (hopefully!) 2022/3 as a '23MY.

Romeo closing is also pretty old news. If I recall correctly, that coincided with news of GT350 production ending (or was it even earlier, with the last round of UAW contracts?). It does bring into question the GT500 though. But, I would expect the current GT500 to end production with the rest of S550. What that means for a future Shelby? Who knows!

How reliable are your sources?

Got a source on that 4th gen Coyote? Interesting if true. If they put money into it, that means at least a few more years of the v8 Mustang, whether in an s550, or s650.
No real details, but read this on Blue Oval News.

"Just" As in Just finished the gen 4 development. My guess if there is a new GT500, it will be a 6.8 or gen 4 5.0 (supercharged). Source is Blue oval news forum.

Correct, the 7.3 is not going into the Mustang. Rumor is the new 6.8 (based on the Iron 7.3) Is an aluminum block performance engine.

Why is everyone stuck on the 7.3 truck engine? 6.8, 6.8, 6.8 people. That is the aluminum block engine that would suit the Mustang & F150.

What exactly would a gen 4 5.0 look like. Can Ford really squeeze a lot more power out of the 5.0 or at this point is it just gonna be small gains over the gen 3?

Gen 4 yote? Correct me if im wrong but isn't the gen 4 coyote in the new 2021+ f150s? With the belt driven oil pump or whatever, or are they still calling it a "gen 3"

As far as I know that is not the gen 4 discussed. More like a 3.5.

Is the 6.8 rumored to be DOHC and 4 valve per cylinder? If not, count me out. It will just be more big 2 valve truck crap that GM and Dodge are doing. The Coyote trounces the others in hp/ci, so if they build a bigger V8, it would be silly not to be DOHC. A 6.8L engine with the same hp/ci as the gen 3 coyote would make over 650hp.

That would be sweet. The 6.8 is said to be a 2V, and more than likely boosted in the Mustang/F150 applications. Target is probably the Hellcats/TRX. Ford is losing ground to them.

I would hope for a DOHC setup too but im not sure if that would even fit in a truck, let alone a mustang LMAO

With the Gen2 it's fairly easy to get Gen3 numbers with a TB/intake. Ford basically baked those changes into the Gen3 (along with the dual injection and other little QoL tweaks). My money is on the Gen4 being a similar thing, with the tweaks of the Bullitt/Mach1 getting massaged into the "standard" Coyote alongside a few minor updates. Maybe we see numbers like you'd get from the existing Power Pack. There's simply not a lot left on the table with the motor, without building a whole new motor.
We will soon see. It would be nice if they can tweak 500HP out of the standard GT 5.0 engine.
