I am looking to do the muffler delete and have a few questions from people who have done it already. I will be cutting the muffler off, clamping a 2.25" pipe, and putting a 3.5" tip on the end.

I am looking to do this myself, I enjoy projects and working on my cars. the pipe I will get getting is slightly tapered so it should insert into the stock exhaust piping, for anyone that has done this before, do you recommend using a lap band clamp, or the U style exhaust clamp?

Also, I measured from where I will be making the cut to where the tip will stick out, it is about 21" or so, what should I use for the exhaust hanger? The typical hangers I have seen online all seem cheap and reviews state that they break easily. Is there a way I can use the stock bolt holes with a solid solution? I'm assuming that the distance of the piping is too long to go without something holding the pipe up, correct?

Vert turbo!!!!
I had a professional welder work on mine... matter of fact, I've not read of anyone using clamps.

At the end though, I got mufflers since, in my opinion, the car sounds like sh t without mufflers. Matter of fact, if I could go back to stock I would. I would do the "turbo 4" sound (get that turbo sound...) instead of "loud 4 cyl no muffler" sound.

Honestly, I love the way my car sounds... it sounds great. Until I get next to a V8... then I sound sad again.

Others have a different opinion.

Mine was welded too.. they welded hangers onto the pipe to use the stock location.

jtmat, what kind of mufflers you got? got any videos?

I actually like the way it sounds with a muffler delete.. the pops and crackles are great, wish it did more of it like the Focus RS.

I have some vids on this site... don't know which threads now....

Info from my build thread: Magnaflow mufflers and tips: SummitRaching.com: Magnaflow #10415 ; Tips: #SUM-690032.

I liked the muffler delete when I first got it... but then it got to me... but then again, I have a vert. That could be the difference. But I'm an odd bird, I wish I'd kept my stock and focused on the turbo sound.

Heard a turbo car at a meet and man did it get noticed. Way to stand out... we will never stand out (in a good way) going the muffler route.

But I do like the way my car sounds...

I too wanted more turbo whistle.. Lol. That's part of the reason I did the muffler delete.. I dunno, what else can you do to hear more turbo spool? I had the MMR CAI and the induction sound was pretty cool but my car feels better with the stock box and green filter.

While I agree the exhaust note with a muffler delete isn't exactly "desirable" I think it's better than most options and definitely better than nothing.. I rather hear the exhaust than the DI ticking away sounding like a john deere tractor.

We would recommend using band clamps, though it may be difficult to get the perfect angle on the tips without some fabrication involved. If you do install this way, post up some pictures on how you did it!

If you want more turbo whistle I'd highly recommend getting a bov or intake that vents to the atmosphere. If you really want you could get a catless downpipe and keep the stock resonators and that'll be enough back pressure to give you the rs pops and crackles. I think that'll make you fall in love with your car
