MPG problem

I've had the car for about 3 weeks now and have just been experiencing terrible mpg. Currently I'm at 15.4, mostly city but I do have a 50 mile highway trip factored into that. Checking through the forums, there's GT's getting better:tsk:
I know I'm not heavy footed, so it's not me. Do I have to break the engine in more?(currently at 330miles). Are there problems I should check for??

Yea, you need to keep breaking it in. Also run premium on your next fill up if you are not already. It gets better over time.

My GT got better around 1000 but keep in mind the GT doesn't need to work as hard to get up to speed as say a V6. Those EPA tests are done under pretty much unrealistic conditions.

Tire pressure. As temperature go down, the pressure also goes down.
But mine says 20MPG mixed driving.

Higher concentrations of butane in winter fuel will also account for lower MPGs.

If it's mostly city driving that's not really far off from what you would expect. 19 mpg EPA will not happen.

I drive an auto, but I don't accelerate hard. I'd say I rev it no more than the average driver. The thing that bothers me the most is that the mpg I'm basing it off isn't strictly city. I have another trip that has it at 14.8 *faints*. I'm going to reset it today so I can monitor it more accurately. I didn't buy the car for mpg's but I expect at least average, especially driving like a grandma!

2 things

#1 - it is a NEW CAR and your are getting used to it. Proudly blipping the throttle and accelerating hard 10-40mph.

#2 - gas stations has all switched over to the winter blend by now. This alone is worth a minus 2 on MPG.

I have a true 50/50 split on my commune. 19-20 mpg is what I get. 100% highway 24 mpg.

but all those numbers are minus 2 in winter.

It will get better once the engine gets broken in. Mine an auto with 3.15's and now has 7k on the odometer and it finally just now getting the highway rated mpg. The 3.15's kill in town mugs for me. My last mustang was a 13 gt with a manual and 3.73's and did awesome in town and the highway.
