Equal on the road course? Where did the GT500 lose?
D bit, there was the famous spreadsheet of SVTP.com showing the comparison wins, if memory serves me correctly, I think the zl1 got a few faster times and the GT500 got a few faster times. But in all other (besides road course )categories the gt500 won everything else.

I mean you can make a quick summary that the ZL1 faster around corners whereas the GT500 quite a bit faster on straight line, but it all comes down to tuning the cars and how you prioritize your performance given the compromise you're willing to make. The ZL1 is tuned to be as fast to a price point. Then you take the same basic car and tune it as fast as the 911 GT3 and call it a Z28 for quite a bit more money than the ZL1. Same with the GT500 or Boss which share the same basic chassis but given the tuning you have two very different cars. Of course same basic principle applies for the 911 turbo and GT3. One is more like a GT whereas one is for the track.
It's not black magic. It's just engineering.

Well it is simple physics, GT500 is faster (by alot) in a straight line and faster in general in the corners as it has better times and better numbers.

As far as engineering goes, most of the comments about offsets and such are dimensional issues about the lengths of the axle and the wheel dimensions that locate the wheels rather than some magical feat of physics. The track of the car which is limited by body width and the tire width and compound really are the item to consider as well as chassis tuning.

not sure what your point is in this whole discussion is:frusty::headbonk::frusty::headbonk:

Considering there is no way there was a tie(I will call it close), it looks to be a 3 one 1 margin. Also interesting to note that the longest track produced the only zl1 win. Which is opposite of what you say here.

Yeah, the GT500 raped the ZL1, this is what spawned the next z28 to be "faster than anything Ford had". Which makes the z28 just another ZL1 empty promise... They said the ZL1 would be faster, hands down. It wasn't, not even close.

They just marketed 3 different models the same exact way and got away with it.

This is an issue with average intelligence...

Either going for more hp or get rid of some weight.

What I'd love: 510-520 crank HP with a sub 3500 curb weight.

If I could only have one, I'd take lower weight as it is easier on the components, and in my own experience, its easier to add power than drop weight and maintain drivability.

Given the Z28's extra weight, I'd say the break pads/rotors will wear faster and be more costly to maintain than on the 911 GT3.
In defense of the Z28, to the best of my knowledge they aren't bursting into flames...

I have a good friend with a GT3 stuck down at the port in Houston. He was lamenting how long it has taken and how much longer it will take to get the car, and I mentioned off hand he should have just gotten a Camaro.

I'm not that agile, but I got out of the way of the block of wood he threw at me pretty good.

Haha would have loved to see his expression!

We have a red 991 GT3 sitting in our customer garage waiting for its engine as well. It actually came in for another issue with the recall came out.
