im pretty sold on stainless works right now. I would like to do the install myself but don't know if I am mechanically inclined enough to handle it. I have installed bags on cars, and various suspension components. never something like this though. has anybody done an install on their own? I have a jack and axel stands. I will not have a lift (I can get one but for 16 an hour which isn't too bad)so I will be doing this laying down. I don't want to pay 500 dollars to have a shop do it.

People say it's a bitch. I was under the car last week and the drivers side doesn't look too bad. Passenger side is tight getting to the bolts. Some people say it took them 8-10 hours to do...I just don't see that.

See this thread and you might change your mind.

I particularly like post #12.

I just had mine done. It is a big job, especially for a first timer on his back.

I'll have to agree with everyone else - LTHs installation is probably one install you'll want an experienced shop to do. Even experienced shops will tell you how difficult it is to do.

BTW, I have Kooks non-green catted headers going to a Borla S-Type catback.

My Kooks are very nice. They fit great.

As for installation... I can say with full certainty that I would not do it again. Although my car is SC'd... if I were NA its probably not really an option if you want to get the most power you can.

It just doesn't seem that difficult once you get the mounts, starter, steering input shaft out of the way...at least the drivers side. It's basically right there in front of you. Pass side bolts look like they could be tough to get to.

Do you have a sound clip. I have frpp sport by borla. Interested to see how it sounds.

I did it on my back on jack stands and it took about 13 hours. I do feel like I'm very mechanically inclined and it still took me that long. Granted I didn't have any power tools, but it was still a huge PITA. I'm seriously contemplating paying someone to do it.

It's really not a HARD install that requires high technical skills, there is just ALOT of little shit to do.

Still don't have a sound clip. Have to try to make time to make one on the weekend. Its my daily, but I'm hesitant to rev. it in my neighborhood (lots of families) and/or at work, but I'll try to find some place to do it.

did you have the catback on before or after? if before headers, how much louder is it now that you have headers? im a little hesitant to rev the sport in my neighborhood too. i do want more volume and power. looks like im paying someone to do an install. i just got hand surgery and dont want to wait six months till i feel good enough to do it myself.
edit - i have the 2.5 inch catback. do you have the 3?

At WOT with headers, its much much louder. If my catback was a 5 in loudness from 1 to 10, after the headers I'd say its an 9 at WOT. But if you drive normally - as in shift before 3000 rpm and don't floor it everywhere, its not annoyingly loud...just a deep, rumble-y muscle car sound.

Don't worry though - you'll figure out how to drive "quiet" after 20 minutes of driving it around.

The only thing I don't have control of is cold starts - that will wake the dead...but its only at the volume level for 20 seconds then it idles quietly and normally.

To be honest, I thought it was too loud after I had it installed. But after a month, I think its quieted down a little (or I'm use to it), and I know exactly how to drive it without being annoying.

I can say that I love it now and wouldn't change anything.

I just got my headers and exhaust installed. This morning (at 5:15am no less) was my first cold start. Is loud, but I did it with the garage door shut and waited a few seconds before opening. Not too bad at that point.

+1 on shifting at or under 3,000 rpm for normal driving.

That's what I did....kept the stock manifolds and will put them back in 5 years when I need to smog. Obviously, I'm in Calif. too.

Are you going with catted headers? Catless headers seemed louder when I heard them. I haven't had a side by side comparison of catless and catted, but I'm pretty sure the catless headers were signficanly louder.
