AV Guru's, I have a question.

A few months back I changed out my head unit and swapped the 4 speakers and 2 tweeters on my base GT. I currently have no amp.

Current Specs:

HU: Pioneer 8100NEX
Component: Focal RSE-165
Rear Deck: Focal RCX-165

The speakers aren't that bad and I don't really have many complaints. I have catless longtubes so I don't really need audiophile quality but I would like a little more thump.

So the question is, do I maybe get a 4 channel amp with some better speakers (which should I get that doesn't break the bank) or a single channel and add a sub in the trunk.

Only thing I've looked at is this:
https://store.audiodesignscg.com/product/2015-2017-mustang-subwoofer-box/

As I want it out of the way if I go that route.

Looking to do this in a couple months and would like to nail down budget before hand. Any opinions?

If the volume of the speakers isn't an issue to you, I would say the single channel with a sub would be a better solution for the bass. The Zenclosure boxes are another option, they have a single sub one that would sit behind the rear seats if that works for you (still leaves spare tire access).

For a 4 channel amp, I was asking that question here for mine. Only recommendation so far was the Pioneer GM-D8604.

Your thread is actually what prompted me to ask this. The zenclosures are nice but I like the idea of having the sub completely out of the way. Like to put the seat down for snowboards.

One thing I think is important to factor in is that the aftermarket component speakers aren't designed to play as full of a range as the factory ones. For example, your Focal's have a frequency response of 65-21,000 Hz. Your subwoofer will typically cover anything below 80 Hz. Even amping the Focal's up, you will still be missing the low end.

My suggestion is to read @ForTehNugyen's thread and consider running two eights in an Infinite Baffle in the rear deck off a modest monoblock. This should certainly fit a more modest budget too.

You can do a single sided ZenEnclosure, should give you enough room. Then mount your amp in the spare tire well. Or simply get a 10"'/12" single sub in a box you can easily remove when needed. I do love my Zen though...

Do you have a spare tire? Or are you running that goop and air compressor? Or nothing?

I have roadside assistance (AMA/CAA) and one of those reamer/plug kits in the center console. Because I have nothing in the spare tire well, I put a shallow mount Pioneer subwoofer in there along with an amp. It's completely out of the way and would solve your issue. It adds just enough boom and bump to be happy.

I just need to revise how I have it mounted, it does "jump" over big bumps, but I don't want to drill into anything. I'm currently using rare earth magnets, and I might get a strap to secure it to the mounting hole where the spare tire sits - no drilling then, other than into the sub box (1 screw).
