Is there a way to monitor coil packs? I'm trying to chase down some misfires. while the codes do give me as an example cylinder 6 and 2 and a few others that come and go.

Can this be monitored with HP Tuners or on a dyno?

Ashtar

I'm not sure about ignition coil integrity testing through the OBD port.
Closing up the factory plug gap to .038" -.040" helps mitigate misfires and lessens the load on the coil.
Changing the plugs every 30k or so has merit along with all coils changed out long before that 100k milestone.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've closed the gap, and still have some issues. So I'll be swapping out the coil pack. FYI, the car has 29k on it. :)

If it misfires on a .050 gap it'll misfire on a .035-.040 gap. What mods if any are done ?

My 5.0 starting, idle quality and low RPM (>1500 rpm) misfires completely cleared up after adjusting gap to .038"ish on original coils @ about 18k miles.
Just saying, I'm not a fan of gaps over .040".
Typically large plug gaps slow trap speeds, learned that from my lake racing days (snowmobile stuff, triple cyl. 1000cc stroker motors not Grandpas one lunger megaphone turds of the past)

I really need to just put this in a notepad some where and copy/paste it out when needed.

2015 Mustang GT PP1
Hellion twin turbo (top mount) kit.
NGK Iridium IX spark plugs: heat range 7. Gap was at .026 it is now set at .022
It will usually when going on boost. Almost like there is spark blowout. Found this out while on the dyno.

Sooo a .038 improved your track times on a NA engine ? Learn something new everyday.

.038" gap 5.0 reference was starting, idle and low rpm only.
Lake race sled plug gap (.018" -.022"), that's a small detail in an attempt to put others back on the trailer.

Whats your max boost ? Looks like you're going the right direction with plug gap.

Two options to think about;
2020 GT500 coils
Good old fashion NGK V-Power plugs.

As for the coil packs, yea. I've got some oem's I'll try out tonight. I work sundays. :/

Ive been searching the plug specs and cannot find this plug for the coyote. Could you post the part number?

Use copper plugs
As asked above, please provide a plug number.

I have found in the past a gap around 025 to 028 to be the best for high rpm performance.

Id try these (NGK 6510) Spark Plugs gapped at .28 with the stock coils. I don’t know of any way to test coil performance. Other than just getting an old school transparent spark plug wire and watch the spark strength.

Just look up brisk spark plugs. Also, a .028 gap is fine for FI.. Not so much for NA especially with coil on plug. I can picture the ground electrode melting real quick.
