You can always disable them too electronically. Remember reading that somewhere.
I'd fail my inspection because I know for a fact I'd forget to re-enable them. :headbonk:

It's mandatory to have drl's there? Or you mean, putting the tri bars on is not legal?

Possibly both.

All new cars in Europe must have Daytime Running Lamps after 2011. As for the Tri-Bars, I don't think they'll be illegal in the UK (you get some crazy light combinations from factory here), but I'd have to check with an MOT centre to be sure.

Should be. We have some rather stupid antiquated laws over here and it's still fully road legal to have the tri bars as DRL's. So I'm sure in that regard, you guys will be fine.

PS: Good color choice

I'm assuming you mean the new 508 RHX? Yes, they have Tri-Bar DRLs like the Mustang but with one major difference: They are mounted far lower on the car near the fog lamps.

BUT.

After some reading I've found some interesting info.

1. Daytime Running Lamps (DRLs) and their operation
DLRs are designed to make vehicles more visible during daylight hours and are now common on vehicles of testable age. DRLs themselves are not covered by the manual and are therefore not testable items.

They are fitted to the front of the vehicle only, coming on automatically when the engine is started and independently of the other lights. Often they are incorporated within the same unit as the side lights or headlamps and care is needed not to confuse the different functions. When the side or headlamps are switched on DRLs will extinguish or dim to fulfil the side light role. Also where DRLs are in close proximity to indicator lamps, the appropriate DRL may extinguish or dip when the respective indicator is operated; this is by design and not a reason for rejection.

There is no requirement to retro fit DRL on vehicles not fitted with them as standard. If you decide to retro fit DRL you should ensure they have been approved to the correct European legislation. This can be confirmed by checking that the approval mark embossed on the lamp contains the letters "RL", see figure 1 below

So its not actually grounds for MOT failure according to the government, and they'll be legal as long as they do not dazzle oncoming traffic and have EU approved lamps.

There doesn't seem to be grounds for failure if they can be seen from a certain angle as we were all originally told. If anything, it'll be because the US lamps don't/can't use EU compliant bulbs. There is nothing that tells me you need to see both at all times because my Kia would've never come off the production line.

Notice how you can't see the left side DRLs (ice cubes at the bottom) in this photo?

Anybody else looking at getting the Roush Active Exhaust?
This is the four tipped one that requires the replacement rear valance? I think it looks great though not sure of the sound but i guess the point is that you can change its sound depending on the circumstance.
It's on the wishlist though dunno if it'll ever hit the top!

Yeah it is, there seem to be very few videos of it so I'd need to see a proper video of it to see what it sounds like. It's either the Roush active exhaust or the Ford Racing by Borla for me.

Why not Roush Axel Backs if you're looking for a monster sound?

These are the ones I'm getting. Cheap and easy to install.

Sorry if its been asked before, but does anyone know whether the small manifold change that Ford have made for RHD cars affects the fitment of the various aftermarket catback exhausts that are available ?

I'm looking to get a Borla S-Type but I suddenly thought that maybe it wouldn't fit if the manifold has been re-shaped in any way.

after market exhausts are from the catalytic converter backwards, the engine manifold to cat doesn't change so it won't affect anything.
