It really depends on the area, I've had straight pipes on my SRT and never received anything but a warning and that was in Claremont( claremont cops are bored with nothing else to do)

Just ordered atak's so let's hope I don't get hounded.

So a few weeks ago I got a fix it ticket. Talk about a pain!!! So apparently I have to get a Db check and if I get 3 fix it tickets for modified exhaust I get my car impounded. How much of that is actually true? I feel like the sherif was just yanking my chain. Can they actually do that?

Yes they can actually do that.

Happened to me once in my VW Mk V R32. It had an active exhaust that you can modify to run open all the time. Got pulled over near Los Feliz and Western.

Had to go to L.A. Trade Tech Automotive School near USC and they did a dB Meter reading and signed off on the ticket.

Yes, that sucks about living here, but then again avg. temp and humidity year round is a big :clap2:

Lol yeah that's a plus. What about impounding your car after the 3rd ticket. I've never heard of that before

Yes, they can do that. I was told that they could impound it at any time if they felt like it.

Its just the luck of the draw really. The R32 wasn't 1/2 as loud as my full headers to x-pipe-catback Bassani exhaust on my '03 Cobra and I was never ticketed for it...pulled over a couple of times, but they were nice about it.

My current Kooks to Borla S-Type is monstrously loud at WOT...as in child weeping inducing, but I'm careful to keep off the go pedal and shift under 3500 when I'm puttering back and forth from work.

Its just the cold start for 10 seconds that will wake the dead.

You might just have to bite the bullet and put it back to stock and get the ticket signed off legitimately. Car impound would be a huge pain in the ass and I imagine a bigger fine.

Borla exhausts are always monstrously loud: had a Borla ATAK setup on my 2012 V6 and I could probably wake the dead from three county's over.

If you have a Ford Racing exhaust, that's definitely made by Borla and you better believe any cop within a thousand miles will hear you haha.

Its my first Borla product. If I had known headers + Borla S-Type would've been this loud, I would've gone with the Touring instead...oh well...still sounds good most of the time.

What you WANT to say is that it always sounds good, just not necessarily legally. ;)

Loved my borla system, although I'll probably get some form of a touring version so as to not be hated the city over.

This is just bad luck. I don't think it has anything to with California. Cop was probably just trying to find anything really to meet there "quota"

What happened to you, can happen anywhere. I live in the OC, near LA. First time I've heard of someone getting an exhaust mod ticket.

I have the Corsa X. I worry more about my tinted windows than my exhaust.

I got pulled over last night as I floored it from a stoplight with another mustang behind me. After I hit 3rd gear, saw the red and blue flashing lights. They were cool, didnt say anything about my exhaust except to turn my engine off because my exhaust was so loud they could not hear me. lol

I love cali but they do have stupid regulations...they never carry 93 Octane, they have their own emissions regulations....So do the supercars also get loud exhaust tickets...especially the Lambos?
