Hey guys,

I was under the car this weekend (2018 GT, 6-speed) and I was contemplating the install of the MGW shifter I've had in the box for the last year plus. I put a wrench on the 10mm bolt that connects the shifter to the selector rod (I think) and gave it a tug... And got nothing out of it. How tight is that bolt and what are the chances of breaking it?

I figure that breaking that bolt results in having to drop the transmission, and I'm not really equipped for that on jack stands in the garage. If it's just really tight, I can keep at it, but looking for experience on how hard it is to break loose. I sprayed everything I could see with penetrating oil and will give it another shot this weekend, but it has me a little paranoid. Any advice is appreciated.

Mine was tight but I wouldn't be concerned with snapping the bolt. I used a ratchet wrench as space is tight. Make a mental note of your hand position as you remove it because getting it back in can be a challenge. Take your time with the installation and then enjoy your new shifter.

Just did my barton this weekend. Both those top bolts were annoying as hell to get out. But it’s possible.
I did it on jack stands too

its easier to get the 10mm from above (through the shifter hole). I used a 1/4" wrench to get it out. Putting it back is something else, lol.

Box end to break it loose, ratcheting wrench to remove. I was able to get 1 hand on the side of the transmission and the other from around the driveshaft. No issues completely removing the bolt or with the install.
