Just like every other day, got into the car, started it up and immediately noticed that the seatbelt chime sounded way too different. Very tinny and close, as if coming from the instrument cluster.

Thought it was just me and drove to work. Backing into the parking spot, the reverse sensor sound was the same! Very tinny and not coming from the back as usual, felt like the gauges had a tiny PC speaker (like the ones that made BIOS beeps) making the sound.

Checked audio system and all speakers were working fine, even faded all the way to the back and sounded fine.

Turned the car off and returned after work and everything works fine. What just happened?

The chimes communicate over the network and are played via the audio system (when powered) unless there is a an issue (comms, hardware failure, etc) and then the chimes default to the IPC. If you are continually having this issue I would say the system is sensing a failure somewhere.

Makes sense, thanks a lot!

Was just wondering if anyone out there has had any similar gremlins. Mine has happened only once in 4 months of ownership and hasn't returned.
