Thank you so much for finding out what this is. I didn't have this noise until after installing differential bushing inserts and the BMR CB005. I thought I messed up and left something loose or not torqued properly since the noise happened after the install. It's been driving me nuts the last 3 weeks because I wasn't able to find a single bolt in my undercarriage that wasn't torqued to spec. Well, at least I know all my suspension components are torqued to spec.

Diff bushings just amplify the thud/clunk, instead of the soft factory bushings masking it.

Gamepak20, what you hear when up shifting is most likely pop noise coming from the drive line. I don't think it is associated with bad U joints. Most people (including myself) have noticed excessive play when rotating a drive shaft, this usually indicates excessive gear wear or gears being out of alignment. It can be combination of both the transmission and rear end or just one of them. I don't know if either one has anything to do with the issues we're experiencing for there's not enough evidence gathered yet. I wonder if someone could find out the tolerances for the tranny and rear end, than we could compare/figure out the problem. There's the clutch brake that imo could be at fault or at least is a contributing factor. Feel free to correct me if I got some things confused :)

Thanks for the replay. My EBPP is not having the describe noise when shifting, only while in gear and accelerating I can hear and feel this noise. The only thing I can remember what is sounds and feels like is when my old 88 ford ranger universal joint starting going bad. I was thinking mounts or axels, the last time it happen I was gradually accelerating up a pretty good size hill around 2000 rpm in 6th gear. It popped and that was it, my initial impression was the trans trying to pop out of gear. It has happened in 3rd gear through 6th gear, and around lower rpm's. Sorry wish I had a way to catch it on video.
Just reading through the thread and came across your comment about "bad u-joint" sounds...

The noise you are experiencing - is it a rotational click/clack noise that occurs only sometimes and possibly under lower speed loads and you hear it directly from the trans tunnel (or say under the center console from within the car)?

Does it go away at higher speeds?

I wonder if this is what I'm hearing. It sounds like slop in the driveline, but it doesn't always happen. It may or may not have started happening after I installed the Steeda inserts (which fixed the thump).

I tried the Boomba trans mount, which didn't help. My next idea was a one-piece driveshaft, but I'm not spending the money if it doesn't fix it.

I am having this same issue after BMR Poly Diff bushings and Delrin Cradle Bushings. Has anyone found a solution to this.

It feels like driveline slack. I cant find anything loose. I notice it most when i push the clutch in while moving and it sounds like the driveshaft is bouncing back and fourth. Goes away under load.

That's when mine started. And I'm pretty sure you're right about the source.

I have noticed the same clunk and especially hear it when turning slowly in neutral. It happened after I lowered my car.

Are these manual cars only with the issue, because i have an auto car with no clunks!

Yeah these are manuals. Because manual is constantly going in and out of gear as oppose to automatic it's pretty much always in gear.

So I broke down and ordered a Shaftmasters one piece drive shaft. We shall see if it fixes the noise.
Let us know the difference when you install it. I'm also looking at installing a single piece driveshaft as well.

So I got the driveshaft in this weekend. I went with Shaftmaster's aluminum one-piece. I would've gotten it in sooner, but there was quite a bit of missing hardware in the box. Kudos to Shaftmasters, however, for getting the missing stuff to me super-quick.

Anyway. Did it fix the noise? The short answer is no. It's still there, but less often, and quieter. I imagine this is because the one-piece takes out the u-joint from the middle. The remaining noise is from the transmission and the rear differential, so there's probably not much more than can be done.

Install was pretty straightforward. Shaftmasters provides most everything required. They even included the 12-point socket needed for the rear flange. If you're gonna tackle this one, be sure you have a 10mm box wrench with 12 point in the box portion. It would also be helpful to have a thin profile. And be absolutely certain you do not skip the thread cleaning for the rear flange.

Throttle response is awesome with the lighter driveshaft. I couldn't believe how much of a difference it made. I also did the MGW shifter at the same time, so I was gear jamming like a foo' during my test drive. The car definitely left a smile on my face.

I didn't have any vibration, but I didn't get faster than 60mph. I might be able to top that on Monday. We shall see.

That sounds like a good upgrade. In surprised the shifter made no vibration. In excited to pick up my driveshaft as well. Thanks for the review!!
