I purchased the Mcleod RXT1200 from Lethal at Christmas for my 18 GT and I'm getting ready to install it now. I'm finding conflicting information on whether I need to purchase a new pilot bearing or whether this flywheel comes installed with a new one already. I reached out to Lethal as well, but they are closed for the weekend, so trying to get some info before I take the car apart and then wind up with it stuck in the garage for 2 weeks waiting for parts.

I purchased: MCL-6333825HD-L

McLeod Racing 6333825M RXT Twin Disc Clutch Kit | Order Your 66333825M RXT McLeod Twin Disc Clutch Kit with Aluminum Flywheel for the 2018+ Mustang GT at Lethal Performance

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

I have it out in the garage. Pardon the ignorance, this is my first clutch swap. It seems like the 2018 up kits have it built in, looking at the clutch in the package, it's already assembled but based on what I can see, it looks like there is a pilot bearing already.

Tough to see, it looks like the second disk is all that can be made out in that picture. You would be looking all the way to the back of that hole, where it bottoms out there should be a bearing up against the back of the hole. Is it possible to get a better picture focused down the dark hole in the middle.

Mine is a Ram Pro Street Twin Disc, but perhaps you can look at my flywheel (which has the pilot bearing installed in it) for comparison to yours to see if it looks similar.

Thanks for the info, I was able to confirm that the flywheel already has a pilot bearing installed, I'm not sure if that is the case for all clutch kits for the 18 plus cars, but it is for the RXT-1200.

Anyone have any tips for the flywheel installation with one person? Trying to torque those bolts has been challenging by myself and I'm trying to find a way to hold it while not damaging the new flywheel.

Can you grab a neighbor or a friend to hold the crank bolt while you torque them down? I had my daughter hold the crank bolt with a breaker bar when I did mine.

I didn't even think of that, I could actually get my wife to help using that method. Thanks!

So....your suggestion worked very well, though I now find myself in a significantly worse spot than I was earlier, one of the brand new fly wheel bolts that I was using sheared off while torquing it to about 60 lb ft. Any suggestions on getting that out?

For clarification, I hand tightened all of them as recommended to Stage 1: 89 lb.in (10 Nm), Stage 2: 177 lb.in (20 Nm), then Stage 3: 59 lb.ft (80 Nm) using the star pattern 1-5, 2-6, 3-7, 4-8.

I guess if that thing was going to let go at such a small load it's better to know about it now.

I'd grind smooth, drill out then EZ out if you can but keep drilling larger until the EZ out works or the bolt is annihilated. The closer you get your initial hole on center the easier your job will be.

I was able to retrieve the bolt with a set of channel locks. After a bit of googling, I found: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/917832-broken-flywheel-bolt.html and the info in the thread makes sense, without the head on the bolt applying the pressure, the bolt should be able to twist right out, which it did.

Is 60lb ft the correct toque for these bolts? It felt a bit sketchy applying that much pressure to these bolts, but I certainly don't want them to be loose or not torqued enough.

Lucky you it's in pliers territory. I don't know this particular case but 60 ft-lbs isn't unreasonable for flywheel bolts. Clamping strain at that torque is nothing compared to the shear force that little thing will experience in its lifetime.

Glad you were able to get the damaged bolt out. Did you replace the bolts or reuse them? I replaced mine with new factory bolts, as it seems like I had read somewhere that they were single use bolts.

Yea those were brand new factory bolts. I’m going to order another 8 now and hopefully I’ll have better luck. I bought new bolts because I was worried about this exact issue :/
