I just bought my 2015 GTPP Saturday evening and it definitely has a thunk when sitting still and shifting into first with the clutch fully on the floor. Also when driving hard through the gears (NOT power shifting) The rear end seems to clunk around a lot. So much so that my mother whom I was giving a ride to said something about how rough it felt. I know when I had a clunk noise like this in my Cadillac CTS-V it was the rear end bushings and motor mounts that were shot. My car has about 350 miles on it (I bought it with 300 miles on it already because the dealership manager was driving it as a demo.) For a brand new car this clunking is pretty annoying and should not be considered normal in my opinion. I'm pretty disappointed for spending 40k on clunking car.

You're not the only one that's disappointed in spending 40k on this car. I have a laundry list of regrets, but I'm still hopeful my positives will eventually outweigh the negatives.

Took car in. Was told the noises are normal and it is gear rollover and the trans for the PP is different which makes the noise. I picked it up. I am not going to argue. Hope it gets quiet as it breaks in. Also, I bought some dynamat, BG 2', steeda mount, whiteline to quiet it down. I will work through my options and report out. Urg

My car is ticking like a freight train. It's embarrassing, I get looks from people on the road as in "what's wrong with that car". Dropped it off at dealer, was told it was "alike other vehicles on the lot". I went in and had a listen, was nowhere NEAR alike the others I listened to. Manager and shop foreman agreed, but decided to follow Fords recommendation of an oil change and drive it for a week. In other words "charge him for an oil change and send him out the door, see if he comes back again". Yea, lots of things are being reported normal, to who's standards?
End of rant, don't need to derail the thread...

Under my car today installing headers and I looked over the drive train closely , grabbed the drive shaft with my hands and rotated it back and forth ...Yup there was the clank !!! There is a good bit of slop in the drive shaft and between the trans and rear end ..I have felt more slack on other cars I have had and they also clunked badly ..

I think this is pretty normal for a manual car , most all manual cars have this slop or slack in the drive train .. I do think for a new car like this Mustang it should not be as loud ..I mean we are not driving cars from the 60s or 70s , one would think Ford could have made a better car after 40 years ...

Now that I know where and what is making the noise I'm not too worried about it ..The thud sounds still bugs me because I have no clue what is causing that sound or where it coming from ..

The "thud" in my car is pretty quiet, but it is there if I'm paying attention. What I have noticed is that the driveline does seem to have a good deal of slack/lash. If you just kick the clutch in and out really fast while in gear (particularly at low speeds in 1st/2nd gear) you hear the whole driveline clang around a little. I believe this is normal for this car, but I'm surprised how much there is.

If I do it quick enough the car actually moves forward 1/2 a foot or so while feeling the thud. This is clutch fully depressed and going into first gear immediately. It's almost as if the input shaft was not winding down to stopped speed as the driveline shaft.

I got the thud too and by the sounds of it we ALL have it with the manual. I only get it sometimes from a dead stop going from N to 1st.

I spoke to a Ford Engineer who called me when I filled out a survey about my mustang. He said that the thud is normal and explained why it happened but I forgot what he said. I do remember him saying that it does not affect durability and it isn't a cause for concern.

:headbang:

like a few of us have already said nothing to be concerned about, but people will be up in arms about a thud

but some of us will sleep easy at night knowing
