Wha?

Right foot is always for brake and accelerator. (unless your in some kind of racing)
I guess what I meant was, Unlike Automatic, you will use your left foot with a manual..and your left foot is for the Clutch. Right foot is for gas and Break, the last of which is something I hope you'll afford a little to me. :)

please start using 'brake' instead of 'break', it's killing me :)

thank you for clarifying.

Can Hill Assist be disabled? I was thrust into learning how to drive a manual by having my best friend drive my brand new (to me) Mazda B2000 pickup to a steep hill, get out and have me take over with a line of cars behind me. That was back before the times of Hill Assist by a longshot. It's safe to say that it took a very short time to learn how to drive a manual, even on steep hills that way. It still took practice afterwards, but a small chirp or two and I was on my way. Once you get the vehicle moving, it's easy peasy.
Yes, hill assist can be turned off. The complete steps are missing my mind right now but it's a long series of wheel turns and multiple brake pressing. Probably in the manual somewhere.

Thanks! I thought I read somewhere before that it was. I still think this is a good way to learn by the seat of your pants.

I drove my 89 5.0 for a weak with no clutch when the cable broke. I have also shifted my 06 gt with out the clutch. Justto see if it was posible if the need arose.

I had the exact same problem as the OP, current car is an auto, want the new Mustang to be a stick but don't know how to drive one.

I've just bought a beater Subaru with a stick for a couple of grand. The plan is to use the Subaru over the winter and sell it in the spring. That way I get to keep the miles down on my nice car so I'll get a better trade in on it. Plus I get to learn how to drive stick without burning out the clutch on a new car, or getting into a wreck. Oh, and Subarus are super popular in Vermont so I'll probably get back what I paid for it.

I'd think twice about selling that Subaru if you're gonna be in Vermont. All wheel drive'll come handy pretty soon. Rwd sucks in the snow.

The only time I ever use my left foot for anything is brake torquing at red lights. But I know people who drive automatics with both feet -- right for gas, left for brake. I couldn't do it, but works for them I suppose.

Don't sweat it too much. If you have decent coordination it should only take about 1/2 hour to get the hang of it. I have taught lots of people to drive a clutch. If you know an experienced driver with a manual ask them to coach you in their car. I suggest starting in an empty parking lot. The hardest part about driving a manual is starting on an incline. Once you take delivery of your new Mustang drive her gently for at least a week until you're comfortable with the clutch. Then have fun.

Those are the same people who have their brake lights on at all times, and I'm sure they're used to replacing brake pads every year. Some people are so neglectful when they drive, and I'm sure they're not even aware of it.
