There are many complaints about paint quality, easily chipped. To be honest, I've read the same complaint in most every car forum save Lexus so this isnt a Ford bashing post.

My question is this...my car has taken a couple of hits on the highway with no scratch or chip. Ive read in another thread that Magnetic Metallic seems to do well in comparison to other colors.

Magnetic Metallic owners, how is your paint holding up? Help me make a $700 decision on paint protection film.

I’ve picked up a few chips, not big ones, but I guess that depends on what hits you! I assume any extra protection will help.

The chips will be harder to see on the Magnetic Metallic - because when the color layer is chipped on the body the underlying layer is a grayish color... when the color layer is chipped on the bumpers or lower rockers the underlying color is black.

Chips are more visible on blues, blacks, reds and oranges.

I thought the paint was kind of crappy on my 2018 Magnetic also. It appears the paint on my 2019 GTCS is better, but its also Black so i'm not sure yet.

I haven't noticed anything yet, but it's only been 10 weeks/2500 miles.

Nothing yet on my Ingot Silver 2019, but has slight chip in rear and is the same light grey color that does blend in well with ingot and does hide chip well like my ingot Fusion. I am more concerned about the gloss upper and lower grill I have vs. the matte ones from earlier s550

Mine seems clean, but I also do things like having a good following distance between me and the vehicle in front of me; and try to keep at least 2-3 vehicles between the back of the construction trucks and me; else pass them. Nearing my 3mo of ownership though.

Actually got my first chip myself after only a couple days owning it; an area at the rear wheel to bumper fascia, paint drip on the edge. Thought, that looks odd...DOINK...chip! Well, that sucks. Then managed to do it again on the other side. Dealer gave me some touch-up paint; had detailer apply it before doing opti-coat.

I’ve only got one small rock chip on fender in front of the rear tire. Found that the color does a good job of hiding the Ford touch up paint I used to fix it.

My only complaint about the color on my car is that the drivers door appears to be a shade lighter than the rest of the car when viewed straight on in direct sun. If you view the door from an angle it blends in perfectly. Not as noticeable in the shade. The metallic and color seems to match perfectly close up or when viewing in the dark with a flashlight. Just don’t know what’s going on and at first I thought it was repainted at the factory due to damage. But the door exhibits the exact same robot sprayed orange peel effect and a hand sprayed recoat would look different than the robot sprayed areas as far as the orange peel is concerned I would think. Guess I need to take this up with the dealer.

9k miles, one chip that’s visible. Was thinking of the film too, curious what quotes you are getting.

I had several paint chips on the front of my Magnetic '15 GTPP. I have a few chips on my RRM '17 GT350. I don't think the color matters, it's just thin paint.

I had several hood and bumper chips but I’m the second owner so not sure exactly how many since I’ve owned it. I now have a new hood due to corrosion covered under warranty and a new bumper due to a large dog running into my car covered under insurance so I’m curious to see how the body shop paint work holds up.

I wrapped Suntek on the whole front end and rear quarters, and ceramic coated the whole car. Guess where I got my first and only rock chip? Back end of the roof  Crazy bounce I reckon. Shows a small white speck.

I have so many rock chips it's crazy. If I had to do it again, this alone would persuade me NOT to get this color. In a few years, I'll be looking for a new hood.
