Hi,

What kind of LSD is in the GT? Torsen? Clutch? Viscous?
Does it require any maintenance? Anything you should do, or should not do, to prolong its life?

Thank you.

Torsen in performance pack, clutch type in the rest of them. All S550s have LSDs.
Other than changing fluid, no other maintenance needed.

I see. In Europe we don't have performance packs; our optional extras are organized differently, and apart from Magneride there's nothing related to tires/suspension/wheels/etc. that you can choose as a separate optional package. As I understand, this is because all European Mustangs have the performance pack by default, but I'm not sure whether it's PP1 or PP2.
How can you tell which kind of diff you've got? Is there anything that gives it away?
In the case of the clutch type, how long does the clutch pack usually last, and how do you know when it's time to replace it?

All European cars were getting clutch type diff but I'm not sure if anything changes with arrival of magneride. Rear end ratio was the easiest way to tell - 3.73 cars were Torsen ones, at least in US (manual transmission).
EU cars had partial PP1 (partial because of lack of diff, strut tower brace and who knows what else), not even close to PP2.

I don't think you'll have a need to replace clutched on the diff, but yes, eventually they will need be replaced if driven real hard.

I guess you know what I'm going to ask next. :D
How can you tell what the rear end ratio is?

Edit: never mind, I found another thread where someone else asked the same question. It seems this info should be on a sticker on the driver's door.

Thanks.
