Well, the .3" is about 7mm. It isn't a huge number, but not so fine that it would require calipers to pick it up. If you put the parts side by side, it would be visible, though maybe not so prominent as to jump out at you. Either way, no big deal. But since you asked, it is the reason that the two parts don't interchange. To make the ring and pinion mesh with a 3.55 gear, you essentially have to do away with the shim on the right side and put a double shim on the left. That might push the gears over far enough to engage, but it would also push the diff splines far enough over that the axle shafts won't seat or engage the snap rings.

Another thing in "not" being identical.
Aluminum is not Steel.
Depending what you are going to do with it the Aluminum housing is not as strong.
A few guys have busted them.
Sounds logical....

Oh, btw. Installed 3.55 gears in alu housing - no problems whatsoever. Upgraded to Wavetrac diff at the same time.

I'm going to swap gears again soon - 4,09 this time!

So, is the wave trac a torsen like in the GT 350?

From just a simple GIS it appears the Wavetrac is a Torsen type LSD with a bias engagement/booster cam.

So its a T2R like in the GTPP with less bias under no-slip conditions with the potential to put more torque to the high-friction side under low friction conditions without using brakes.

Thanks for the info .
Will it work better in drag racing applications than the T-LOK ?

I must not have seen where the OP has superwide and sticky rubber...my bad. Point is that 3.15 with auto is steeper than 3.73 with manual, so 4.09/auto will make 1st gear pretty much useless, but whatevs...it's not my problem.
