I'm starting to look at lowering my car, most likely with one of Steeda's progressive offerings. But I'd like to take care of anything else that would best be done at the same time. So what else should I be looking at?

  • Camber bolts?
  • K Brace?
  • Bushings?

I'm planning on adding wheel spacers at the same time if that makes any difference.

None of what you listed is necessary in conjunction with Steeda Progressive springs. Camber bolts are something I'd never use since I track my car (installing a smaller bolt makes me nervous) but they're an easy purchase to install at the same time to ensure you can achieve the front camber you desire, but you can live without them. Just make sure the alignment shop sets toe to a minimum that will still keep the wheel straight (not fidgety down the road).

All Steeda bracing (and BMR's) is independent if a spring install. You can do that later.

Bushings are the same. Do the springs. See how you like it. I've done a few Steeda Progressive installs/drive-longs and they all had no other modifications at the time and the car was perfectly fine for someone that just wants better handling overall.

Great advice, thanks. And I hadn't considered that the camber bolts were smaller diameter. I'm gonna go with springs and spacers, then call it a day

I am of the opinion that anyone modding their S550 Suspension should acquire more than just the springs (when they are acquiring springs to install)

The reason is because the options out there for firming up the cradle from us (BMR) or Steeda are a must in my opinion for those looking for better performance from the suspension.

Our CB005 and the Steeda IRS offerings are both related to the rear lowering spring install - as the most common way to install rear springs is to lower the IRS Subframe down.

Since you are installing the springs by lowering the subframe, you can simply install the upper bushing parts of the IRS Cradle Lockout or Support System Kits at the same time.

So you are saving yourself labor of lowering the subframe by installing our CB005 or the Steeda Systems....AND you are saving yourself from getting two alignments.

All to often people call me after they have lowered the car, to order IRS goodies. They have lowered and aligned the car....and now they are installing more parts, and RE-aligning the car.

My vote, do it right. Install a Subframe Lockout or Support System at the same time.

I agree 100%. This is the reason that I ordered Steeda Progressives, Steeda subframe alignment kit, BMR CB005, BMR toe rods, and BMR vertical links. I'm installing everything at the same time and then a week later get an alignment and I'll be done with suspension. It always seemed foolish to me to buy piece after piece and have alignment issues. I also don't wanna keep climbing under my car over and over.

Understand the sentiment. I figure once I've got the car on a lift let's get it all done. In the last week installed springs, shocks & struts, camber plates, sway bars and Steeda's new bump stops (among some other things). Since I did the BMR BK048 sub-frame bushings over a year ago I'll be getting yet another alignment...hopefully the last one for a while. Looking forward to the suspension just being right and not worrying about it any more.

As a side note, I upgraded to longer ARP studs and went with slip on spacers. From an engineering perspective, I believe this to be a much stronger and safer way to go. My $.02.

Right, this is why I was asking.

So what is a must-have and what isn't? The CB005 is $200. Fine. But by the time you get into the braces and vertical links and adjustable toes it drives the price up miles past the starting point. Keep in mind I'm a daily driver only. I dream of going to the track, and might at some point, but it sure hasn't happened yet!
