Ok, that's BS. The fuel is always going through the pump and motor while the car is running, cooling it. If there is no fuel, then the car doesn't run. More fuel does not equal "more cooling."

He's not talking about fuel cooling the engine, he's talking about the fuel cooling the motor of the fuel pump itself. It's a submersible pump and the fuel in the tank cools the fuel pump. When you run the tank very low the heat from the fuel pump will heat the fuel up more because there's less of it, straining the fuel pump. It's more prevalent with race pumps but it still applies to stock pumps.

Strange thing to be arguing about. When the needle hits 1/4 tank, fill it up.

Good point, Flak. I always fill my Mustang when the the fuel gauge needle is under a quarter tank. As sinister points out, it's better for the fuel pump to not let the gas level get too low.

yes, there is 2 triggers.

1st one will come on @ the 35-40 miles to empty, and will be a yellow warning.

2nd one comes on at zero miles to empty and it is red.

When the 1st one triggers, it makes the Nav (if equipped) show any gas stations on the map.

When the 2nd red one comes on, remote start (if equipped) does not work.
I guess each car is different. If you look at my pictures in Post #21, you'll see that mine came on at 14 MTE. And my NAV screen never switched to show gas stations..

Mine comes on at 50 mte which is about 1/4 usually. I find it oddly annoying.

that’s what I’m saying. Is there anything that can change this?
It’s about 1/4 like you said. I have to keep hitting ok every time.

Mostly I find it annoying because I always fill up at a quarter tank anyways and now the idiot light seems to think I need to do it sooner. Lol

yeah I will take another look. Hopefully there’s a hidden setting somewhere. Maybe through the radio options. Sucks to have to keep hitting ok...

On my 2015 GT, when the "Low Fuel" warning message first pops-up on the dash there is about 1 to 1.25 gallons left in the tank (verified by gas fill-ups), and the Miles to Empty (MTE) readout on the dash will show between 15~20 miles left to "empty".

The Low Fuel warning message usually pops-up when the fuel gauge needle is about 1 needle width above the "E" hash mark. The Owner's Manual on page 79 says that the Low Fuel warning should pop-up with about 1/16th tank left, which is 1 gallon in the 16 gallon capacity fuel tank.

No. The reason this thread originally died almost five years ago is because no one really gave a shit. Find something else to bitch about.

In- tank fuel pump depends on gas around it to keep it cool. Run the tank very low, pump can overheat or over stress it. Just get gas around 1/4 tank and don't worry about it.

Only thing I know you can change is the accuracy of the MPG readout in Engineering Mide. There's a thread about it someplace on M6G. Maybe that ties in somehow to when the DTE and low fuel light comes on.

Have you ever checked the MPG readout accuracy on your car?
