Well, I took my GT into the my dealers service center this morning. The service manager looked at the indicators that come on during "prove out" and then said he didn't know what the low fuel indicator was. He read the manual and then told me that my GT Premium may not have the low fuel indicator "option". He told me they would need the car for a day in order to find if my car had this function and if it does, why its not coming on. ( I was at 20 MTE and less than 1/16th of fuel and no light). I didn't leave the car, but am frustrated that the service manager doesn't know something so basic. While I do watch the gauge, I paid a good amount of money for the GT Premium and want all the functions to work.

Post 12 is right from the manual. If you have a Premium model then you have the DTE function which will in text say law fuel. THERE IS NO OTHER LIGHT. That is the point of the display between the gauges and DTE function.

It says right in the manual too that the warning comes on between 10-35 miles to empty, or 1/16-1/4 tank (1/8th on highway), depending on driving conditions the car reads.

Just fill up before DTE hits say 10 (obviously never trust to go into single digits as common sense) or 1/8 tank. I don't see the huge problem here

What are you talking about? 1/8 or 1/4? That isn't anywhere near accurate. The manual says 1/16th so that's what it is. The amount of gas doesn't change dependant on driving conditions, it's the dte that changes. Dte seems to be pretty accurate with my car. Anywhere from 20 to low 30s.

There is a gas light lights up. It's near the odometer. You can see how low I had to be for it to light up. Damn dealer didn't leave any gas for test drive

I have no idea why the Taurus starts warning at 35 MTE and even has a user config to set it to a 50 MTE warning, yet the Mustang is so much lower. The attached shots are when the indicator first came on, on my GT. The dealer had no idea where the indicator was or when it would come on... I was told by Ford Corporate support that the yellow icon will switch to red, but I'm not going that low just to see if it changes color. I always fill up at 1/4 tank remaining and will continue to do so. This is another great idea for a PCM flash update: either a user settable warning range or at least bump it up to 30 MTE !!!

yep. i brought this up last week. When Miles to empty say "ZERO", you have maybe 18-10 miles of gas left.

I was able to put in 15.5 gallons. We have a 16 gallon tank.

So the consensus here is that there isn't a "Low Fuel" indicator rather a message in the center information center. I had 35 miles to empty on my "Trip 1" display, and no message. I was told today that he thought it had two trigger points... the first at 50 MTE and again at 25 MTE. But he was basing that on other Ford models (not the Mustang). I know for sure that I have no indication at 50 MTE! I don't wait for it to get to 25 MTE. I have not found any way to configure this function.
yes, there is 2 triggers.

1st one will come on @ the 35-40 miles to empty, and will be a yellow warning.

2nd one comes on at zero miles to empty and it is red.

When the 1st one triggers, it makes the Nav (if equipped) show any gas stations on the map.

When the 2nd red one comes on, remote start (if equipped) does not work.

Yep, that's how I'm reading it also. If you have the Premium car, you get a big warning that pops up on the Information Display to warn of low fuel. And of course you can always watch the DTE indicator on either the Trip 1 or Trip 2 display.

From reading all the threads about the low fuel indicator/warning and the DTE info, when it says you're low on fuel you better believe it.

when I get to 1/4 tank I just fill it back up to avoid running low... I personally don't like to see my fuel level low.. and not to mention look at every horror movie don't wait for the light to let you know, you don't want to run out of gas in jason voorhees neck of the woods

My Low Fuel warning in the information display consistently comes on with 1/8 of a tank by the gas gauge with the DTE showing approximately 35-38 miles. The little low fuel gas pump icon at the bottom of the display stays lite until I fill up. It will take approximately 14 gallons to fill the tank. With the car consistently getting 27-29 mpg this all adds up.

Why would they change it to only come on at around 35 miles to empty? My 2011 pops up at 50 miles left.

Gee, keep in mind the fuel pump is in the tank and depends on gasoline to keep the pump and its motor cool. Don't make it a habit of running below a 1/4 tank or you may develop premature pump failure esp. during warm weather conditions.

Ok, that's BS. The fuel is always going through the pump and motor while the car is running, cooling it. If there is no fuel, then the car doesn't run. More fuel does not equal "more cooling."

This drove me absolutely insane -- because when the gas stations start showing up on the navigation, they don't go away when you fill the tank, and there's no obvious way in any of the menus to get rid of the gas station icons. The instructions in the manual didn't make it clear to me how to get rid of them either. So I drove around for like a week with my nav screen showing 15 or 20 gas station icons filling up the screen. Eventually I realized you have to touch the nav screen NOT where there are any buttons to make that menu pop up.
