You could take the manual out of its place above the glove box and paint the little yellow tab black. That’s probably big enough for a smaller pistol, while being tucked out of sight, as it’s unlikely a thief would pull that down, even if they knew about it, because, well, who is breaking into a car to steal the manual.
I've had my CC permit for decades (since they came out), and have never carried with me except once (at the SA river walk at night, with a thief on the loose)... but always try to have a small gun (Walther PPS M2) in the car, especially when I travel; just in case. And also have a holster in the glove box, which might not be a good idea, since it might signal a weapon is somewhere in the car. I might remove it, or relocate it to the passenger door deep pocket. At any rate, I hid mine at the very end of the super deep driver's door pocket. Then stuffed a small, black Porsche umbrella I always leave there too, and plugged the remaining 'hole' with a small bath towel. And in front of that, my water bottle (it bothers me to shift on the console), so impossible to tell there's anything behind the water bottle... unless the thief is a Gen6 Mustang owner
. Thought about the manual compartment, but the manual would eat a good portion of the small glovebox, so decided on the door.
