I remember when I got my Z4 back in '04 that the instructions for setting them suggested to actually place your ear against the window and set it so that you just couldn't see the side of the automobile. Just paraphrasing, but I remember it being like that. I agree, too many people do not set them correctly. You just don't need to see the side of your car when looking into them.

My understanding is that electric folding will be provided in some markets - Japan for example, I believe you require them.
Hope electric folding its not only for those large Euro-style mirrors.
They are not required for us at all.

Even with the mirrors adjusted properly the little blind spot mirrors (BSM) are actually very useful, at least to me. They're what I look at before I move into another lane.

As for the 45 degree thing, I was taught to adjust the mirror outwards until you have to move your head to see the side of the car in the mirror. I guess that this is roughly 45 degrees.
Many moons ago I read an article much like car and driver one I linked. The jist being as a car is passing and leaving your rear view mirror it should enter your side mirror that u can see with a glance to the side. And as the car leaves your side mirror you should see it outside your window.

Wish they would of added a camera to the mirrors. I have one on the passenger mirror, now that I've gotten used to it, it will be hard to give up.

Who likes 'em?

I think they are a vast improvement, and while not on par with the beauties on an Aston Martin, are pretty damn, well "pretty" in their own right. Am I right?
I think they are Fantastic. Very close to an Aston's and in My Opinion, I actually think the Mustang's look better.
