I say let the poor guy get the prototype and actually get retail units out in a few plain colors before post after post asking for custom stuff.

Like the other base GT switches you can always paint or decal them however you want. I don't think the demand for playing airplane is very high overall (from the total interest in the concept) that it'd make any sense to order and stock such highly customized units for such a small volume item overall; as everyone will want something slightly different or a different color base or writing etc.

I believe the intent is that its up to the customer to paint/customize it, but it looks like there is thought to custom writing at least.

I would recommend moving the text box down so it's closer to the horizontal centerline of the "circle" of the cover. That way you would have room for more letters.

would "IGNITION" or "OH SHIT" fit on the cover?

I also wouldn't mind a full cover; if the button is exposed because it is a half cover that kind of leaves it open to just be pressed without flipping it up IMO
