K&N HP-2011 much longer than FL-500S

My car was built in December 2018, and I bought it new in April 2020. I just turned over 500 miles, and wanted to get that almost two year old oil out of there. I picked up 10 quarts of Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 at Walmart, and they were out of the Motorcraft FL-500S. I got the K&N HP-2011 instead, since that was a recommended alternative. When I removed the factory filter and noticed that the K&N is almost an inch longer. Why doesn't Ford use a longer filter from the factory? I've always felt like the FL-500S was very small.

The OEM filter is not FL500S. The 500S is significantly longer than the OEM one. Don't know the model that one is.

The things I read said that the factory filter (which was not labeled) is actually longer than the FL-500S.

Obviously different for 2018+. The 2015 one was about 75% the length of the 500S.

OP must have some bizarre factory exception, becuase on my 2020 the factory filter that was on there was like a little over half the height of the FL-500S.
